For the first time in Its history, al
though there baa alwaya been more
or losa local organisation among the
laboring people and wage earneit
here, Sherman became a recoguived
union labor center and the aite of a
local assembly of the Amorican Fed
eration of Labor.
.Tha narpflnters. paintergf olerka and
pinners, the last two practically"
ganited, are now fully rccognixed and
under full protection of the great o>>
ganization of which Samuel Gompera
is president and which has 2,500,000
members.
Mr. A. J. Oharette, editor of the
Dallas Labor Journal and bearing
certificates showing his authority to
act as d¡strict organizer came up Sat-
urday night and effected tho organisa-
tion of the Sherman Assembly.
The carpenters, painters, tinners
and olerks were represented by dele-
gates selected in due form and officers
were elected as follona;
President—A. 8. Tennille, tinner.
Vice-Pre&Ment—Lon Davis, car-
penter. ¿2 —
Recording Secretary—George 8ta- Ito lay
pies, painter.
Financial Secretary 8arvi*,
clerk.
Treasurer—Albert Ratzell, cai poo-
tor.
Reading Clerk—W. L. Brjggance,
painter.
Guide—A. 8, Bumbaugh, painter.
Guardian—A. A. Anderson, tinner.
The five delegates fromeaoh oigan-
zation form the Trades Cjunoil. All
filaji's mait, bi elejtel trjiu am >ug
the delegates.
Orgauiaer Oharette made an ad-
dress replete with good advice before
^he open mass meeting.
There is a spirit of conservatism per-
meating the entire organization
which will at once appeal to the un-
biased and unprejudiced in behalf of
the Sherman Assembly, It is not
organized to create dissentions but to
prevent them. The men who form it
or at least the great majority of them
are well kuown and have upon their
hearts the care of families and fire-
side*. The common brotherhood of
mankind of itself demands such co-
operation but the grasp of trusts at
the very throat of the nation has
oreated an emergency co-extensive
with tlft nation. "
It has boen decided to hold the
first meeting of the r sembly at Wood-
men Hall, southwest corner of the
court plaza, next Thursday evening.
At this meeting an exoutive commit-
tee will bo appointed.
