this morning that every mine In the
first district Is shut down "dead" em-
bracing territory from Forest. City
to Shlcshlnny. Seventy-five thousand
men are idle and the best of order
prevails everywhere.
Tamauqua, Fa., Sept. 17.—All col-
liers in this region are working short
handád. In Schuylkill valley region
only about one thousand out of fifty
thousand miners are on a strike. Of
four hundred and fifty colliers in
Pltttston district but few are working.
The president of the miners union
says as far as he knows, "Things look
good."

Galveston, Sept. 17.—Better order
is being maintained since the arri-
val of the deputy marshals. The
search for dead bodies continues.
The street are being rapidly cleaned.
It is asserted the stricken city will
have rail communication by Wednes-
day. Yesterday the official report
showed , that sixty-three corpses had
been dug out of ruins about the city.
Galveston, Sept. 17,—Hydrants are
covered with tons of debris and Gal-
veston^'s greater danger now Is from
Are. Women and children are being
sent to the mainland as rapidly as
possible. The electric light plantas
a complete wreck and it will be some
time before the business section 1

Dallas, Sept. 17,—More troops were
called for today to relieve the worn
out guards at Galveston. Something
like'direct regular wire commulnca-
ttons was opened with Galvaston this
morning by both telegraph companies.
