Elects Officers
For New Year
Officers were elected this week
at a callfcd meeting of Pejham
Chapter, United Daughters of the
Confederacy, in the home of the
new, president. Mrs. C. M. Tilley.
Other officers elected were Mrs.
Wrrnie Grice, vice president: Mrs.
A. D. Bates, secretary-treasurer;
Mrs. Kassie Landry, registrar and
recorder of crosses. Miss Mary
Gilmer, historian; and Mrs. Tilley,
custodian.
Mrs. Grice presided, in .the ab-
sence of Miss Lillian Mitchell, who
Is ill. She reported that the book.
"The Gallant Pelham" which the
chapter voted to give to the Stark
High School library, has -been de-
^irs? Iflftey' said she has re-
corded 75 cross* of honor and SO
«esses of military records of
World Wars 1 arid If which have
been awarded locally by the chap-
ter. The chapter sito has marked
the graves of Confederate soldiers
buried In the county. ')
It was voted to send a donation
to the Randolph Relief Fund for
widows of Confederate soldiers not
eligible for pension.
Miss Gilmer gave a report on
Novel Ideas Developed by the
Confederate Navy."
The mee.ting concluded with a
social hour.

NEW YORK (AP) — Findings
cited in a new book. "Sex Ways—
In Fact and Faith." published by
Association Press, show that "fre
greater degree of religious devout-
ness. the less likely the individual
is to -be accepting of premarital
sexual activity."
Studies reported in the book also
indicate mat there are at least

each year in the United States, and
that approximately 16 per cent of
American brides were pregnant at

Neese State College has established
an all-time enrollment of 1,584 stu-
dents in current summer classes.
Mrs. Inez S. Moses, registrar,
who made the announcement,
said that the 1,235 already regis-
tered in undergraduate day classes
exceeds the 1,181 record set in
1960. At the same time there are
four workshops for "in - service
teachers" yet- to take place.
The first candidates for the mas-
ter's degree fit the newly estab-
lished graduate school at McNp^se
number 320 including 154 day .stu-
dents and 116 in 'night ^classes*
Mrs.; Moses said that aimmer
session closes'Aug. 9. and gradua-
tion exercises will be held Aug! 12.

American expedition to conduct
