Will Remove From Waco.
Hon. George W. Barcus has com-
pleted his arrangements to leave
Waco about November 1st for a new
home. He will go to Hereford, a
growing and prosperous little city in
the far western part of the state,
and practice law there. It is not a
new purpose or determination. Six
months ago Mr. Barcus began the
investigation with a view to removal.
He had attractive offers made him
and finally he went to Hereford for
personal survey of the field. That
trip decided Jiim and he will go.
He has reason to believe and hope
the move is wise.. It is a splendid,
a growing country out there, with
exceptionally good opportunities for
young men. Mr. Barcus was reared
in this county (McLennán) and his
host of friends will regret to see him
and his estimable young wife de-
parti Hereford will have valuable
acquisitions in Mr. Barcus and his
wife, and the friends here will wish
for the couple health, happiness and
prosperity.—Waco Tribune.
Referring to the above, Mr. and
Mrs. Barcus will find a hearty wel-
come awaiting them from our peo-
ple. The former, as is announced
elsewhere in our local columns, ar-
rived this week and is establishing
himeelf permanently! His law of-
fice is in the rear of the Western
National Bank building.

J. D. Thompson of Hereford,
'exas, predicts great things for that
part of the Panhandle country. Mr.
Thompson is one of the old time
Texans who was a little slow, to be-
lieve that the open range would dis-
appear, and instead there would be
farms in the Panhandle country.
"But it has come just the same"
said he, "and it has come to stay.
Therj are any number of people
coming into that country from north-
ern states, and purchasing our lands.
Four years ago I purchased 5,120
acres of land there for ranch pur-
poses. It cost me around $1.50 án
acre, which locked high at tha¿ time.
But land prices have been going up
very fast and now I could sell it out
clean for $6 an acre, That is
climbing up pretty fast.
"When it come to farming that
land is good, that is, when the peo-
ple farm right. This year I raised
70 bushels of oats to the acre, and
over 20 bushels of wheat to the acre.
In places in that neighborhood
wheat made as high as 30 bushels to
the acre. In many places the In-
dian corn made 40 bushels to the
acre, and the crop of rough feed was
the best ever raised there."—
