too Locti newspaper.
Speaking of what a newspaper
a community, United States
Senator David Davjs, of Illinois,
made an address that remains ever
green in the memories of newspaper
men. He said: "Every year every
local paper gives from 5,000 to
15,000 free lines for the benefit oI
the community in which Jt is located.
No other agency can or will do this.
The editor in proportion to his means
does more for his own town than any
other man. He ought to be sup-
ported, not because you happen to
like him or admire his writing, but
because a local paper is the best
investment a community can make.
It may not be crowded with great
thought, but financially it is of more
benefit than both preacher and
teacher. Today editors do more for
less pay than any men on earth.
Pátroñize your home paper, not as a
charity, but as an investment.

Saturday's Rain.
At an early hour on last Saturday
morning, a down-pour of rain made
its appearance in this part of the
Panhandle and continued throughout
the day. So far as we have been
able to learn all West Texas shared
alike in the refreshing showers.
, Farming interests, while not
specially suffering for lack of mois-
ture, have been greatly benefitted in
as much as the growing wheat crop
now has sufficient moisture to make
connection, with the winter snows
and farmers will now have an ap-
portunity to plant a large acreage to
wheat, t

Demand for Panhandle Grain.
A. J. Lipscomb this week informed
us that he has an order for five cars
each of cane and kaffir from a Ft.
Worth concern to be shipped as soon
as possible. The Brand has been
advising its farmer friends to thresh
their kaffir and maize and thus make
it marketable and those who have
tried the project are now finding a
ready market for more than they
have to sell. It will be rembered
that a number of cars of grain were
shipped from this place last season
and that it was found profitable is
evidenced by the increased shipment
this season. 'w
