CANYON DEFEATED.
Hereford Boys Defeat Canyon by a
Score of 14 to 8 in a Five
Inning Game.
Last Saturday a picked nine from
the Canyon High School came to
Hereford flushed with their recent
victory over the Amarillo nine and
with the expectation of putting it all
ever our boy*. The game was
called at about 2:30 p. m. with F.
L. Vanderburgh as umpire.
At the start our boys were some-
what disheartened as the Canyon
boys were men by the side of our
boys, and the first two innings Can-
yon had all the best of it. But after
that our boys rallied and commenced
to play sure enough base ball, and
it was not long before the tallies
were in Hereford's favor. The chief
features of the game were fine field-
ing of Canyon's shortstop and third
baseman and the battery work by
the Hereford's, the battery being
composed of M. M. Nuckols, pitcher,
and Edgar Dyer, catcher. In the
4th Inning Canyon's were at bat and
had three men on bases with no outs.
Then Nuckols got a hump on him-
self and struck out two men and re-
tired the third one on a pop-up fly
in the infield, leaving the three
men on bases.
The day being very windy the
two nines decided to play but five
innings and at the end of the first
half of the fifth inning the score was
14 to 8 in favor of Hereford and
the game ended.
The Canyon boys are a very
gentlemanly set and we will welcome
them to our city at any time.
Come again boys, perhaps you will
have better luck next time.
