' The Student Government Association Senate
discussed dress code at Senate meetings/ prelimi-
nary planning for the lower level of the Thompson
Student Center, and the problems with the Texan
Cards at the meeting on Monday at 5:15 p.m.
They discussed the issue of Senate dress code
to make it a more efficient resolution compared
to the previous year. The issue was the expense,
up-keep and constant changing that comes with
wearing formal business apparel to their meet-
ings verses the unprofessional appearance of ca-
sual wear. The issue was resolved by coming to a
compromise of requiring a collared shirt for Sen-
ate meetings.
The Senate also had preliminary discussions
concerning the rearranging of the lower level of
the TSC, It was decided that the main concern
was to keep an area designated for a large student
meeting room to accommodate 100 students. "We
all agree we want to keep a large meeting area."
said Brady Pendleton, SGA president.
Another issue concerning the quality of Texan
Cards was addressed. Many students have com-
plained because the cards wear our easily. Many
have been made to pay at football games because
their card would not swipe in that particular ma-
chine even if the card works fine in other swipe
machines. Also, the position of the picture identi-
fication was called into question because it is also
on the top where the swipe bar is located, gets
swiped many times and soon becomes unrecog-
nizable.
All students are invited to attend SGA meet-
ings. The Senate meets at 5:15 p.m. on'Mondays in
TSC 219 and the House meets on Wednesdays in
TSC 22D.

and Ashli McDonald,
secretary of Zeta Phi
Beta hosted the event.
Sarah Bodden, a
senior and member of
Minority Student Lead-
ers said that confidence
was an important part
of what she learned.
learned to be
more aware of the
situations that I find
myself in with the op-
posite sex and to stay
confident with who I
am/' Bodden said. :
The bottom line for
the topics was honesty,
truth, self-confidence,
and self-worth. This
struck home with Kev-
ela Kirby, a sophomore
and member of Tau
Beta Sigma.
"You have to love
yourself before any-
body will love you,"
Kirby said.
Moore started the
evening with listing
the important things
a person must under-
stand to have a healthy
relationship. There
has to be the under-
standing that everyone
wants love, everyone comes
into relationships with excess
baggage/ and everyone has in-
securities.
Moore listed listening,
trust, honesty, support, com-
munication and having a
separate identity from your
significant other as factors to
a healthy relationship. She
said that if you stop spending
time with friends because you
are with this significant other,
then those friends will no lon-
ger want to be your friend af-
ter the significant other is out
of your life.
Valentine's . Day was an-
other well-liked issue with
the men in attendance and
they wanted to know why
women expect so much on
this holiday. Moore- said that
if a guy only does-something -
on important days/'such as a
birthday, Christmas and Val-
entine's Day, then the couple
isn't building a relationship
day by day.
"There are 365 days in the
year, and you are just going to
grab at three?" Moore asked.
She said that women should
do for their significant others
just as much as they, expect
their men to do for them, as re-
lationships are give and take.
She emphasized that a
person should not change his
or her standards just for a per-
son he or she is dating because
it isn't worth the risk of losing
friends or self-respect.
"My brother told me.,.a
man will be a dog to you as
much as you let them, but it is
your choice," said Moore. She
made it clear that this was true
of women, too.
She also emphasized that
intimacy is more than a sexual act,
;and that sex is a gift that should be
saved for when you really know a
person, as it is an expression of love.
