He also will be squaring off against D.

that offended many black students.
The election is set for May 12.

City exceeds 17,000 residents
■ Stephenville's population was 16,987 January
2006, jumps to 17,051 residents January 2007
By DOUG MYERS
Stephenville Empire-Tribune
The city of Stephenville has now surpassed
17,000 residents, according to figures from the
North Central Texas Council of Governments
released Wednesday.
That growth is attributed to an increase in
single-family residences from 4,673 in January
2006 to 4,702 in January 2007, and an estimated
average household size of 2.3 people, the latest
figures show.
Overall, the population "estimate" in Ste-
phenville was 16,987 during the first month
of 2006 and 17,051 during the initial month of
2007.
"It continues to reflect the positive growth"
that Stephenville is enjoying. City Administra-
tor Mark Kaiser said.
In essence, Kaiser said, the North Central
Texas Council of Governments said, 'Hey yeah,
you guys are still growing/"
The growth figures were released a day after
the Stephenville City Council heard a group of
residents from outside the city limits complain
about the city's plan to annex 510 acres.
The figures reflecting Stephenville's growth
also were released a day after the council ap-
proved the final plat of the 12-acre Alexander
Ridge subdivision and the preliminary plat of
the 91-acre Elk Ridge Estates subdivision.
The planned Alexander Ridge subdivision,
owned and to be developed by Betsill Brothers,
Texas, LLC, will have 37 single-family residen-
tial lots. It will be located at the south city limits
adjacent to FM 914,
The planned Elk Ridge Estates subdivision,
owned and to be developed by Andy Hansen,
will be opened in two phases. It will be located
off of FM 914 (Alexander Road).
Phase I of Elk Ridge Estates will consist of
76 single-family residential lots approximately
one-quarter of an acre in size. Phase II will con-
tain 55 half-acre or larger single-family residen-
tial lots. There is also a 4.5 acre tract of land lo-
cated on FM 914 "which is reserved for future
development/'
In addition, the council held a second public
hearing late Tuesday on plans to annex the 510
acres in five different areas outside the city lim-
its.
