Monday night the TexAnns
squared-off against Huston-Tillot-
son in Austin.,y The TexAnns came
away with and easy win of 81-62.
In every aspect of the game the
TexAnns overpowered the Lady
Rams in rebounds, steals and assists.
Scoring leaders for the TexAnns
were Karla Dick with 17, Angie
Gentry with 16, Helena Smith with
14, Julie Mata with 11 and Eleanor
Golding pumped in 10 poinLs.
The evening before, the Tex-
Anns played against St. Edwards
University, almost upsetting the Hill-
toppers 65-67.
Although the TexAnns did not
pull off lite upscl, 'Jicy gave the Hill-
toppers a run for their money.
Even though four TexAnns
connectcd for double-figures it was
not enough to win the game. Helena
Smith had 14, Karla Dick hadl2,
Kristin Curtis had 11 and Kaelie
Bulter added 10 points.
At halftime the game was tied at
29, and the TexAnns traded baskets
back and forth against the Hilltop-
pers. Unfortunately, towards the end
of the game the Hilltoppers stayed
on top to win only by two.
The TexAnns have moved up in
the NAIA Division II poll from eighth
to seventh place. They will try to
keep moving up in the poll as the
meet Incarnate Word College tonight
in the Small Gym at 7:30 p.m.
Coach Jan Lowery said, "I
would appreciate if everyone would
come out and support the TexAnns
tonight for PACK THE GYM
NIGHT II; free admission for every-
one."

Baseball prepares to
start regular season

Texan baseball is off and run-
ning. Although sauting the season
at 04 against NCAA Division I op-
ponents, Tarleton is getting go<xl ex-
perience competing against NCAA
teams during pre-season; it can only
make TSU baseball better when they
play against other non-scholarship
schools.
The Texans visited the TCU
Hornfrogs. on Tuesday, Feb. II, in a
disappointing 7-8 defeat. Alter trail-
ing 8-1 early in the fourth inning,
TSU made a late burst with four runs
in the sixth inning and two in the
seventh inning only to come up short.
Leading the way lor Tarleton at
the plate was third baseman Tony
Matta batting .500 with mc hom-
er un, one double, two runs scored
and two RBI's, one double, one sto-
len base and one run scored.
On the mound for the, Texans,
Todd Taylor received the loss against
the Hornfrogs. The Hornfrogs ruffed
Taylor up for seven earned runs on
nine hits. From there Greg Davis
took over pitching two and two-thirds
innings, allowing only one run and
striking out two.
Jason Belvins eloscd the game
for TSU pitching two innings, al-
lowing no runs with three stikcouLs.
Tarleton was outhit 13 to seven,
while TSU created only two error's
to TCU's four.
The Texans will finally meet
non-scholarship teams starling this
weekend as they play LeTourncau
University on Saturday. The double-
header begins at 1p.m. at Cecil Bal-
low Feild.
