More persons are harmed in-
directly than by the winds
themselves. This occurs largely
in the collapse of homes,
businesses, and automobiles.
The forces of the tornado bring
death to all living things. Even
those tornadoes that strike
uninhabited country leave behind
a trail of slaughter.
The Weather Bureau recom-
mends that a person seek inside
shelter, but the shelter should be
a tornado cellar, underground ex-
cavation, or a steel-framed or
reinforced concrete building.
Windows should be avoided at all
times.
The Weather bureau also says
never to ride out a twister in
automobiles or house trailers,
either parked or moving. Trailer
parks should have a community
shelter.
If caught in a car or house ■
trailer or in the open, move away
from the tornado's path at a right
angle. If there is no time to move,
lie flat in the nearest depression,
like a ditch or ravine.
Computer competition starts Friday

NEW HORIZONS
'The Story'
New Horizons is a licensed residential treatment center for 56 emo-
tionally troubled boys and girls. Children from across Texas who have
been subjected to neglect, physical and sexual abuse, come to this
quiet central Texas ranch where they find a caring environment. Here
they receive individual counseling and strong role models.
The majority of these children have never experienced positive
childhood experiences. Many have lived on the streets in poverty and
experienced ridicule. Most are from broken homes and several grades
behind in school. The authorities often remove these children from
this abusive situation. NEW HORIZONS offers help for these troubled
boys and girls.
The program at New Horizons is designed to meet special educa-
tional, spiritual, and social needs. Upon completion of treatment a
youth goes to a foster home, adoption, or returned to his family leav-
ing the door open for another child needing the care New Horizons
provides.
