Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council brings
quality entertainment at a low cost
By MELODY FLOWERS
J-TAC Reporter
The Cross Timbers Fine Arts
Council Inc. is a presenter of arts for
you. That is, the people of the Cross
Timbers Basin (Erath, Somerville,
Palo Pinto, Comanche, Bosque,
Hood, Hamilton and Eastland coun-
ties). CTFAC's purpose is to present
high quality at the lowest possible
cost and to enhance the quality of life
in the Cross Timbers Basin.
The Chamber of Commerce
wilnted to help the fine arts and
entertainment element in the Cross
Timbers area blossom. So in 1976,
the president of the Stephenville
Chamber of Commerce and local at-

revenge against Mark White, whom
he hates, and those who supported
White in 1982 (teachers, minorities,
• etc.)," said Dr. Chris Guthrie. "He
has no plan to turn Texas arouund
or improve its economic problems.
He just wanted to beat White and ob-
torney, Don Coan, had the idea of
forming a Cultural Affairs
Committee.
The committee brought shows like
Charlotte's Web and the Fort Worth
Youth Orchestra to Stephenville.
In 1980 the Cultural Affairs Com-
mittee evolved into CTFAC. A fund-
raising bar-b-que was hosted by
Marie and Clyde Wells and Connie
and Tom Birdsong to help establish
the new corporation. After many
more fund-raising efforts, the coun-
cil brought the Fort Worth Ballet to
Tarleton's Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts
Center to perform their rendition of
the "Nutcracker." The production
sold out and made enough money for
the council to cover its expenses and
establish itself as the Fine Arts
Council for the Cross Timbers
Region.
Since then, the council has
brought shows like Gypsy,
Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel
and Tin Soldier to this area.
CTFAC also supprts efforts like
the restoration of the Center Grove
School on the museum ground, and
also co-sponsors a $1,000 writing
contest with Tarleton State Univer-
sity. It also supports the Chamber of
Commerce's Christmas Decoration
Project for the Stephenville Sqare
and the Stephenville area Little
Theatre.
Along with these accomplishments
the council has an Arts Hotline. Dial
965-ARTS for up-to-date informa-
tion on current art events in Erath
and surrounding counties.
Upcoming events sponsored by
the council are the People's Choice
Award, March 6,7,8; the Kinetic
Wind Sculptures and Weaving, by
Bella Sue Martin; the Fort Worth
Chamber Orchestra, to be presented
to 800 school children free of
charge; and the Annual Membership
Bar-B-Que.

organizations in a unique situation,
performing major production
numbers. Invitations to participate in
'Step Sing' were sent to every club
and organization on campus and the
only restriction was that there be at
least ten members involved in the
entry.
Seven groups registered for the
show in addition to the Delta Zeta
activities and pledges who will be
performing. Prizes will be awarded
based on decisions made by a guest
panel of judges. i
Admission to 'Step Sing' is $2 and
tickets are available from Delta Zeta
members or at the door. All pro-
ceeds go to the Delta Zeeta national
philantrophy.
tain the power to punish his
suporters. In short, I believe that
Texas is in for big trouble during the
next four years."
"I am glad that Clements won
because I didn't like the way he was
doing the school stuff," said
Charlotte Garrett, Freshman.
' 'I have decided that Texas voters
have very short memories. I am con-
cerned about what Clements will un-
do in education, including higher
education," said Dr, Janet
Schmelzer.
"I didn't vote, but if I had it would
have been for Clements because he
won, and I believe in winners," said
Melvin Modesty.
"If more people remembered how
glad the general public was to get rid
of Clements four years ago, and paid
attention to how much White had to
deal with Clements' prior decisions,
they would not be so thrilled with
this gubernatorial prospect," said
Leann Miller, Senior.

Deer Season
A freedom seldom seen at home
That feeling's in the air again.
they find
It comes but once a year,
When they are out,
When men are worthless to their
Enjoyment, fun, and freedom is
what
wives,
Huntin's all about.
And hunt the white-tailed deer.
So wives and girlfriends when
They spend week's preparing for
you gripe,
the trip,
Remember what I say:
Their families they forget,
It's only two months of the year,
and they'll
They look forward to the time
Be back someday.
when they can
Drink and stink and spit.
