Grandpa Grear's fruity icebox cookies
1 cup sugar
1 egg ' /.
1 tsp vanilla ■
1 % cup flour
Vz tsp grated lemon rind
1 stick of butter
IV2 tsp baking powder
Vz tsp salt
Vz cup fruit cake fruit
Vz cup pecans
1 large garlic bud, grated
1 tsp. salt
Vi cup paprika
Mix all ingredients except salt and
paprika. Form into three rolls or 1
large ball. Sprinkle wax paper with salt
and paprika, roll cheese balls in mix-
ture to coat, wrap each roll in wax
paper and chill thoroughly. Slice very
thin and serve with assorted crackers
or chips.
Leave the butter out until it's soft.
Gradually stir in the sugar. Stir in the
egg, vanilla and lemon rind. Combine
the baking powder and salt with the Peanut Brittle
flour, then mix it in. Add the fruit and
nuts. Form the dough into a roll and
wrap it in wax paper. Chill 8 hours.
Slice off cookies and bake on a cookie
sheet 10-12 minutes at 350.
Granny's Pecan Pie
3 eggs
¥2 cup sugar
Vz cup soft butter or marg.
1 cup Karo syrup (white or dark)
Vz teasp. maple flavor
1 teasp vanilla
1 cup whole or chopped pecans
1 unbaked pie shell
Beat eggs well, add sugar-butter, beat
again. Add syrup, maple flavor and
vanilla and beat again. Add pecans and
pour into pie shell. Bake at 425 for 10
min. Reduce heat to 350 and complete
baking for 25 to 30 min.
Holiday Cheese Roll
2 (6oz) pkg. cream cheese
1 (3oz) pkg. cream cheese
3 cups grated American cheese, loosely
packed
1 small jar pimiento cheese spread
2 cups chopped pecans
2 cups white sugar
1 cup white syrup
2 cups peanuts
2 tsp. soda
2 tsp butter
salt
Cook white sugar, syrup and peanuts
until sugar turns brown in an aluminum
pot. Add soda butter and salt. Pour into
6 aluminum pans.
Gingerbread
V2 cup shortening
V2 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2V2 cups sifted flour
lVz tsp. baking powder
y4 tsp. salt
1 cup boiling water
Vz tsp. soda
Vz tsp. salt
1 tsp ginger
1 cup sorglum (syrup)
Vi tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
Cream shortening and sugar together;
add eggs, then dry ingredients alter-
nately with water and sorghum. Bake
45 min. in a 12x8x2 inch pan at 350.
