Some people just have to do things the hard way; and TSU coed Sheri Wisdom seems
to be one of those people. Wisdom was participating in the recent OCB Playday.

The problems in Central
;-ilio£sn=w;'
troversial as time goes on.
In speaking to a joint ses-
sion of Congress on April
27, President Ronald
Reagan spoke out strongly
on these problems.
Reagan narrowed the
problem to communist at-
tempts to destabilize Cen-
tral America, and said
Americans must have a
bipartisan foreign policy.
By this, Reagan meant that
all Americans should
forget party conflicts and
pull together to help the
countries in Central
America. It may sound like
a simplistic solution to a
very complex problem, but
the idea is good.
Opponents of Reagan
have- arguments against
Ui !■ • " J"" .r--"
ms poncfesfsiich as costs of
financial aid, but op-
ponents cannot ignore the
threat of Communist inva-
sion in an area so close to
the United States: Some
areas of Central America
are closer to the
Southwestern states of the
U.S. than these states are
to New England.
Besides this, many say
Americans shouldn't in-
terfere because the people
of Central America are not
even trying to help
themselves. Even so, the
threat cannot be overlook-
ed. All Americans should
pull together and help com-
bat the problem.
Reagan echoed the words
of former President Harry
Truman, saying
iuiferioan.^ only have* two
choices to help solve the
problem: to be a free,
democratic country, or to
fall under the rule of an ag-
gressive minority - the
Communists.
The problems in Central
America are a challenge to
the freedom and security of
our own hemisphere. No
matter what the opponents
of Reagan think, something
must be done.
Americans need to come
together on this. It will help
others, as well as helping
us protect ourselves. At the
same time, it will help
show that the democratic
way is the right way - in
our country and in all
others.
Having seen the news the
past few evenings, I had
begun 10 notice the series of
bomb threats being-made^
against Exxon service sta-
tions in the Dallas-Fort
Worth area. Little did I
know that the threats
would soon be taking place
in Stephenville.
Wednesday night my
roommate's boyfriend call-
ed and said that
"something weird'' was go-
ing on by his house - there
were policemen and
helicopters all around. We
thought little of it. We
became engrossed in the
final episode of Dynasty.
During a local
newsbreak, the announcer
began to recount the
"bomb scare" at an Exxon
station in Stephenville. We
all became somewhat ex-
cited that our city was on
TV, but the meaning of
"bomb threat" began to
worry me.
These days, it seems that
the world is full of people
who want more. Un-
satisfied with things as -
they are, they turn to crime
and trouble to j;ry and
make up for what they see
as unfair. Some pf these
people are truly dangerous
- such as the ones who real-
ly do plant bombs. Others
are not dangerous, but
make threats anyway.
The incident in Stephen-
ville was discovered to be a
hoax, but it is still a situa-
tion that calls for concern.
Something needs to be done
for those people who are so
unstable that they turn to
crime. They threaten the
lives and the well-being of
innocent people. These
unstable people are putting
out a feeble cry for help,
but many of us are unwill-
ing to get involved, even
when the threat takes place
so close to home.
