campus offers solutions to these
dilemmas. The Guidance.,,and
Placement Office may be . just
what these people and others are
looking for.
Counseling is the process
through which the counselor will
discuss.,gny matter ■ which
concerns a student and assist
him or her in achieving,, and
maintaining maximum
effectiveness as a person,
according ta.G.W. York, director
of; ,0,ujdanee and Placement..The
counseling may be persgnal or
concern career decisions.
Whatever( it concerns, all
counseling is kept confidential,
he said. Vi.,
The .Guidance and Placement
Off,ice also -offers career
information, such as catalogs,
company brochures , and
employment outlo.qks.
Testing-personality inventories,
mental ability, education
interest inventories-is another
service. Catalogs from other
colleges and universities can also
be looked at in the Guidance
and Placement Office.
"If a student isn't happy with
his major " York said, "we look
at his past academic record; high
school through college. We look
at his aptitude tests (ACT and
SAT). Then we usually suggest
ijiental ability tests and
education interest inventories.
These take VA-2 hours, and we
score them here. Then we can
tell aptitudes, interests -and
abilities. This is done for people
with undecided majors, and for
people who don't like their
majors or who are just curious.

"We fY to get them in the
right, field," York said.. "We
handle all cases on an individual
basis-- one-to-one."
Job placement is a free
service, also. York advised
seniors to contact him in the
Guidance and Placement Office
on the second floor of Davis Hall
to fill out registration forms.
While the office doesn't
guarantee jobs for all TSU
graduates, results fiave, been
pretty good, he said. .
"We have also people, to come
and interview for jobs," York
said of TSU career days. There
are federal and state government
career days each semester too.
"We have information on all
major companies and
corporations," York said,."This
too, is available to students for
their own use."
