TSU enrollment increases
for sixth straight semester
For the sixth consecutive
semester, TSU has shown a
record enrollment, according to
TSU registrar John Whiting.
Enrollment for the 12th class
day of the spring semester was
3,144 for an increase of 98
students over the 3,046 total for
the same period in 1978.
Tarleton's continuous rise in
enrollment started in the fall of
1977 when 3,317 students were
registered. With the exception of
the spring of 1976, however,
TSU has reflected an increase
every semester since the fall of
1973.
The largest increase for the
current semester, compared to a
year ago, came in graduate
students where there is an
increase of 152. The sophomore
class also reflects an increase of
117 students with the largest
decline shown in the freshman
class which is down' by 114
students. The junior class and
special students remained about
the same with the senior class
showing a loss of 58_students.
According to the figures
released this week by Whiting
there are 1,785 male students
and 1,359 females registered for
the spring semester.

Thompson, Warner Cable system
manager said at a recent press
conference,
Thompson explained that
instead, of offering a special

etc., his firm will offer^ one
reduced installation rate until
March 17. Current subscribers to
Warner Cable can have the Star
Channel service installed for $5
and will be charged $7.95 per
month in addition to the $7.50
Warner Cable charges for its
regular services.
Anyone not on cable can
. have both the regular system and
Star Channel, installed for
$15.00, (until March 17)
Thompson added.
Star. Channel will premiere
here March I with the Walt
Disney movie Escape to Witch
Mountain. Other features for
March include House Calls,
Coming Home, Revenge of the
Pink Panther, The Big Sleep, A
Piece of theAction, Roseland,
The Pack, and Orson Welles at
the Magic Castle. Warner Cable
intends to offer something for
everybody in its Star Channel
service, Thompson said.
Although some movie services,
such as the one in Dallas, offer
X-rated movies, he added, the
Stephenville service will not.
"Of course, I don't think Star
Channel will ever replace the
theater because some people go
to the movies just to get out of
the house," Thompson said,
"Our service is mainly for those
people wb6 want to see a
first-run motion picture without
leaving their homes."
