Student receives scholarship

Faculty recitals
Alois Piskor arid Jannette Kavanaugh will present recitals
next Thursday in the little auditoriunrat 8 p.m.
Kavanaugh
and Piskor
to perform
Miss Janette Kavanaugh,
soprano, and Alois Piskor,
clarinetist and saxophonist, will
present their faculty recitals in
the TSU little auditorium at 8.
p.m. on Nov, 16 Piskor will
open the joint recital with
Sonata in B Major for Clarinet
ahd'Piano by Johann Wanhal.
Miss Kavanaugh will then sing
selections from the works of'
Joaquin Rodrigo and Louis
Spohr.
Following the intermission,
Piskor will play saxaphone
selections by Christopher
Gallaher and Sammy Nestico,
and Miss Kavanaugh will present
three works by John Duke,
The Tarleton music faculty
members will conclude the
recital with Der Hirt Auf derri
Felson by Franz Schubert.
Miss Kavanaugh is an assistant,
professor of music and came to
Tarleton in 1967, She holds the
B. M. and M, M. degrees in music
education from North Texas
State University and is also
working toward her doctorate at
NTSIL.
Prior to coming to Tarleton,
Miss Kavanaugh taught in the
Dallas and Longview public
schools. She has been very active
in professional organizations and
has also appeared as guest soloist
at several universities and with
the Schola Cantorum of Texas.
Piskoi" is a refugee of
! Czechoslovakia and escaped the
'communist-ruled country while
appearing with a concert group
in Vienna, He received a master's
degree at the University of
Houston and came to Tarleton
as an instructor of music in 1976.
He is also assistant director of"
the Tarleton band and Jazz

Ray Wilshire, Crowley senior,
will attend the Appaloosa World
Championship Playoffs and Sale
in Oklahoma City.■
Wilshire qualified two mares
in halter classes to qualify for
playoff competition and will
have horses in the sale. Only 100
premium performance! horses
have been selected for the sale.
Wilshire recently recefved a
$500 scholarship from the
Appaloosa Horse Club, Inc. , .
Selection is based upon
scholastic ability, leadership
potential and proven
sportsmanship, community and
civic responsibilities, general
knpwledge and horsemanship
. accomplishments.
The Appaloosa Horse Club,
: I he,, awards seven, youth
scholarships annually. Wilshire
will represent the Dai-Worth
Appaloosa Horse Club as a
member of the WRR riding club.
Wilshire has received the
I Distinguished Student Award
ana a ROTC award for academic
excellence at TSU. He is a
member of several student
organizations, including Block &
Bridle, Alpha Zeta, Alpha Chi;
Wilshire plans to work in horse
breeding management upon
graduation. 1
