Gymnastics team ends season with win over TCU
The Tarleton State University
women's gymnastic team ended
its fall competition successfully
Friday, by defeating Texas
Christian University in a meet
here.
TSU scored 95.75 points to
TCU's 83:80, on an overall score,
TSU gathered 52.85 ^points to
TCU's 42.95 points in class 3, and
grabbed 42.95 -points to TCU's
40.85 points in class 2 of the
compulsory competition. -
Teresa Wood, a 'sophomore
from Stephenville, took second
place in the overall scoring in class,
. 2 competition with 19.35- total
points.
.in class 2 vaulting, Tina Martin,
a freshman from Meridian,-took i
second place with a score of 5.55
and Sue Coke, a junior from
Midland, got a fifth place with a
score of 3.45.
! Til ' free floor exercise, Tina
Martin got second place with a 6.4
score; Debbye Posey, a
sophomore from Odessa, took a
■fourth place with a score of 3.55;
and Teresa Wdod got-a fifth place
with a 2.3 score.
On .the -.uneven bars, Tina
Martin received second place with
a score of 3.45; Sue Coke got
third- with a 3.4 score; and
Debbye Posey took fifth with ,a
score of 1.45. ;

on the balance-beam wit(va score
of 3.95; Teresa'Wood took third
place with a score of 3.0; and
Debbye' Posey received fourth
place with a 2.95 score.
In class 3 vaulting, Alisa Davis,
a junior from Hamilton, took
second place with a score of 4.4;
Helen Phillips, a freshman from
Coleman, received third with a
score of 4.2; Devra Bailey, a
freshman from San Saba, got fifth
with a. scpre of 3.9; and Vickie
Hamilton) a freshman from Aledo,
tied for sixth with a score of 3.7.
In free floor exercise, Rrissie
LeVier, a junior from
Breckenridge, received third place
with a 5.1 score; and Karen
Saylor.'a freshman from Lubbock,
got sixth place with a score of 4.6.
Kay Wells received secorid on
the balance beam with a score of
4.3; and Karen Saylor took a third
place with a 5.15 score.
Mrs. Jymme Lowrance, coach
for the team, said that the girls
were much improved over the
North Texas meet aiyi she was
very pleased with their progress.
She said that the remaining
two weeks of this semester the
team would work on improving
basic skills.
The team will start its spring
semester outings on Jan. 31
against M6untain View in Dallas.
The first home meet will be on
Feb. 7 in Wisdom Gym in which
they will be hosting North Texas
State University and Texas
Woman's University.

All-Stars beat Dolphins;
best players elected
TexAnns to scrimmage twice
The TexAnns' Basketball team
will have two scrimmages before
their season opener against South
West Texas State here, on Jan. 11.
The first scrimmage will be on
Dec. 2, against Texas Christian
University, there, and the second
will be against McMurry on
Dec. 4, at Tarleton.
Centers for the TexAnns are:
Donna Chumney, a 5-11% junior
from Hamilton; Anna Boland, a
5-10 junior from Cisco; and
Michell Slaughter, a 5-10
freshman from Blanket, who plays
both center and forward.
Lone forward for the team is
Jan Tidwell, a 5-9 junior from
Fort Worth; and girls playing both
forward and guard are, Kay
Maddox, a 5-8 freshman from
Henrietta; Norma Williams, a 5-8
freshman from Comanche; and
Marcia Spalding, a 5-7 junior from
Sidney.
Guards for the TexAnns are,
Anne Adams, a 5-6 senior from
Evant; Rosie Lewis, a 5-6
sophomore from Jacksboro;
Debbie Schuelke, a 5-7 junior
from Glen Rose; and Phyllis
Copeland, a 5-7J4 freshman from
De Soto.
Also playing guard is Patti
Edge, a 5-4 junior from Hobart,
Okla.; Florenda Limmer, a 5-6
sophomore from Priddy; Gail
Yarbrough, a 5-5 freshman from
Intramurals to start
Basketball and volleyball
intramurals will start after the
beginning of the spring semester.

freshman'from pott Worth.
Sue Baker, the, Tex Ann coach,
said tiie TexAn-ns have never had a
losing season, and things look real
good for this year.'
The TexAnns had a 17-11
record last year, and a 20-5 record
the year before when they won
the state tournament.
The All-Stars scored two
touchdowns in less than two
minutes last Wednesday to defeat
the Dolphins 24-18 and win the
championship in men's intramural
touch football.
The All-Stars advanced to the
championship game by beating
the Silver Keys 2044, and the
Dolphins earned a sopt" in the
playoff battle by shutting out the
Turkeys 14-0.
Billy Poppill of the Silver Keys
was elected best offensive player
in: Men's Intramural Touch
Football for the season concluded
last week. <
Best defensive player was Cary
Hill of the Dolphins, and the
sportsmansnip award- went to
Mike Defriese of the All Stars.
The three honored were
selected from league winners. The
League 2 sportsmanship award
went to DeFriese. League 1
sportsmanship winner was Bradley
Cockrum of the Silver Keys.
League 1 best receiver was Jim
Scheele of the Silver Keys and
League 2 best receivers were
Rusty Denning and James Young,
both of the Turkeys.
League 1 best quarterback was
Poppill and League 2 best
quarterback was Robert Dagley of
the All Stars.
League 1 best defensive player
(was Hill and League 2 best player
was Jesse Beard of the Bulls.
