TSC Limerick Contest
The TSC English Club is spon-
soring a limerick contest, open
to all TSC students, that ends
Feb. J, 1972. The prizes to be
given are $10 for 1st place and
$5 for 2nd place. Anyone inter-
ested may give their limerick or
limericks to Dr. Joe R, Christo-
pher, W, K. Vandygriff, or Susan
White.
A limerick is a verse form
composed of 5 lines rhyming
a/a/b/b/a,, .of which the first,
second and fifth are trimeter
and the third and fourth are
dimeter. The following example
is by Edward Lear from Book of
Nonsense:
There was an Old Man of the
Dee,
Who was sadly annoyed by a
Flea;
When he said, "I will scratch
it,"
They gave him a hatchet,
Which grieved that Old Man
of the Dee.
The English Club will meet
at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 in
Conference Room B for its first
meeting of the semester. The
program will consist of a film on
"Hogarth in London."
Beginning at 1 p.m. today
TSC embarks on a search for a
new mascot to replace the hor-
se and rider at the athletic e-
vents.
The Student Senate is spon-
soring a contest to select a new
mascot. According to student
Senate President, Jim Reed, the
Senate is offering a $25 prize to
be awarded to the winning
suggestion. He emphasized how-
ever, that it is not the idea of
the Senate to get away from the
theme of the Texan, just to find
a suitable replacement for the
horse and rider and cannon.
The cannon was first ban-
ned from football games in com-
pliance with Lone Star Confer-
ence rules which restricted the
use of cannons because of the
danger of injury to students.
Seniors Urged To
Ready Folders
Seniors graduating in the
spring or summer semesters
are urged to come by the Stu-
dent Financial Aid office and
make out a placement folder,
today. Students planning to
go to a placement interview
must have this folder before the
interview.
The first interview of this
semester will be held Friday, by
the Ag Extension Service, These
will be held from 9 a.m. to 12
noon in the Student Center.
The service asked that Ag majors
apply. These students do not
have to have placement folders.
Lubbock Public Schools will
be on campus Monday to inter-
view students. A folder will be
needed for this interview. For

Since it was generally felt
that the horses and other animals
would be banned also by the
LSC, the Senate went ahead and
did away with the Texan riding
the horse.
"I would like to say that we
have initiated this contest in
order to find a suitable mascot
or spirit symbol to replace the
old ones that were done away
with," emphasized Reed.
"This is something that we
feel concerns the entire student
body of Tarleton, and we have
arranged it so that the students
will be the ones to decide on the
new spirit symbol. We will still
keep the Texan as our theme
because that is the name of our
ahtletic teams. This contest
concerns the students. If they
have an idea, submit it. Who
knows? Besides the recognition,
they may win $25."
Below are the rules drawn up
by the Senate for the mascot
contest:
1. A $25. award will be given
to the individual or group sub-
mitting the winning entry,
2. The contest is open to
official Tarleton students and
student groups only.
3. Entries should be dia-
grammed on poster board with
