On Sunday afternoon, April
27, a group of tired, bedraggled,
sleepy, but happy Tarleton stu-
dents entered the campus, after
attending the Texas'Intercolle-
tiate Press. Association. Con-
vention in San Antonio, The
sleepless nights the J-TAG edi-
tor had spent all'year in order
to get the paper out seemed
worth it as the staff brouhgt
bao.k three awards for their ef-
foysL, :
Linda Strother, editor of the
J-TAG, won a 2nd place award
for her editorial on the- wage
and hour law. Brenda Williams,'
J-TAC reporter, won a 2nd for
her critical review of the Hiok
Thompson, concert, and Karen
Wara.-.a TSC art major, rated
a 1st pface in the editorial car-
toon contest for her picture of
"Meaning of Christmas."
Delegates from the J-TAC and
. .the .GRASSBURR staffs attended,
the convention. They wer.e;, Linda

ner at the Tower of the Americas
on the HemisFair grounds
following a boat-ride down the
river; there were endless trips
up and down the elevator to and
from, the 6th floor of the Gun-
ter Hotel where was a perfect
view of the Fiesta-Flambeau Pa-
rade; and tliere were hundreds
of people to meet and "get-
togethors" to attend.
The convention also had a ser-
ious side, Linda participated in
a panel diggussion of Student Free
Expression Saturday morning.
Then delegates attended a dis-
cussion on job opportunities for
journalists.
After lunch, there was a busi-
ness meeting where several al-
terations were made in theTIPA
constitution. The University of
Texas at El Paso' was selected
as host for next'years* conven-
tion.
Last on the : agenda was the
Awards Banquet. Mr, 'Tommy
Turner, Assistant to the Presi-
dent at Baylor' University, gave
a' speech on mistakes
made in newspaper work and the
funny side of being a reporter.
Another night-time session of
the Fiesta-Flambeau Parade foil-
lowed the Banquet, Sunday
morning found the delegates ready
and happy to. head back to TSC.

Morrison Honored By Sigma
Dr. E.O. Morrison, Professor
of Biological Sciences, has been
elected to full membership in the
Texas A&M University Chapter
of the Society of the Sigma XI,
The object of the Society is
to encourage original investi-
gation in the pure and ap-
plied sciences. Because of his
interest in parasitology and publi-
cation of more than 20 scientific
papers, he has been chosen for
this recognition.
Dr. Morrison shares the honor
with two other previousy elected
members of the Tarleton faculty;
Dr. A, B. Medlen, Professor and
Head of the Department of Biolo-
gical Scheinces, and Dr. Lamar
Johanson, Associate Professor
also of the Biological Sciences
Department.
