Cress Retires; Baumgardner New Head
Dining Hall Director,- Mrs,
Koxie Cress, a familiar face
on the Tarleton scene for over
a decade, retired this sum,mer.
Her position has been filled by
Mrs. Marie Baumgardner,' rr™
Mrs. Cress retired July 31,
after 10 years of service t o
TSC. She began work at Tar-
leton in May of 1957 . as .As-
sistant Director of Food Serv-
ice and assumed ; director's
duties" in June, 1959.'
"I probably have more 'chil-
dren' than anyone in the coun-
try," says Mrs. Cress. ,'Along
with three children, eight grand-
'children, and two great grand-
children, I have hundreds of
'adopted children' from Tarle-
ton."

. late husband owned and opera-
ted restaurants in Sweetwater
and Snyder before she return-
ed to Stephenville.
"The thing I'll really miss
the most is working with the
' students," Mrs. Cress said.
Hundreds of students have
yarned their college expenses
by working in the Dining Hall
under her suervision, Many
still correspond with her, some
beginning their letters with
"Pear Mama Cress. . ." Says
Mrs. Cress." It jijst makes me
feel wonderful."
When asked her future plans,
1280 W. Washington, said that
she intended to visit her chil-
dren more often. She has two
daughters, M,rs. Grady Long of
Sweetwater and Mrs. John
Jehkinson of Fort Worth. She
also has a son, Dr. R. D. Cress
of LaMjarque.

Mrs. Marie Baumgardner,
; Assistant Director of Food
Service _ at TSC for six years,
took charge of the Dining Hall
Sept.. 1, 1967. She will be as-
sisted by Mrs. Katherine Bow-
les. '
Mrs, Baumgardner has a
bachelor of science degree in
hom,e economics from Texas
Tech. and also taught home
economics in Priddy from 1956
to 1961.
Mrs. Baumgardner and her
family moved to Stephenville in
1961 when she accepted the job
of Assistant Director of Food
Service. She and her family
live at 385 Cleburn Street.
She has two girls, one 14 and
the other married.
Mrs. Baumgardner, as Direc-
tor of Food Service, directs; the
operation of ,the Dining Hall
and does the food buying and
all planning connected with the
Dining Hall operation.
She said, "I want to do every-
thing possible to serve the
students and I want to urge the.
. students to come to us with
their complaints and sugges-
tions." Her philosophy in con-
ducting the operation of the
Dining Hall can be summed up
by a sign that hangs on her
office door; "It's nice to be
important' but it's also import-
ant to be nice."
\ NEW ASSISTANT
The new Assistant of Food
Services, Mrs. Katherine Bow-
les, joined the Dining Hall staff
June 1, 1967. Her main respon-
sibility will be to assist Mrs.
Baumgardner in the operation
of the Dining Hall. She is also
in ehargfe of special events such
as banquets and luncheons held
in, the Dining Hall,
Mrs, Bowles was born in
Temple and has lived in Dal-
las. She lived in Fort Worth
one year .prior to coming here.
She has attended Mary Hardin
Baylor University and took
special courses at the Univer-
sity of Houston. ' Mrs. Bowles
lives at 429 West Jone?.
Before coming to Stephen-
ville, Mrs. Bowles was employ-
ed by the Corrigan itotel Chain
as a manager. She managed
the Lennox Hotel in Grand
Prairie for nine years and
served as Sales Manager of the
Corrigan Properties for five.
