nounced Monday that plans for
a?i all-school Fun Day, Saturday,
May 12; are nearly complete. Mem-
bers of the Student Council have
been working on the activity for
several months.

The day-long event was plan-
end by the Student Council to use
the surplus money from the stu-
dent activity fee.
Aubrey Hillman, Student Coun-
cil president, urged students to
stay at Tarleton May 12 and take
part in the Fun Day activities.
Hillman said, "The Student Coun-
cil certainly hopes that all stu-

For Higher
Election Standards
The proposal for having higher
requirements for the president
and vice-president of the Student
Council passed at the election held
April 17.
Three hundred and one TSG' stu-
dents voted in the election, with
215 in favor of the amendment,
and 86 against it.
The amendment requires the
Student Council president and
vice-president to have a minimum
of 60 hours and at least a, "C"
average.
. Aubrey Hillman, current preaU
dent, stated that he was very
pleased with tha outcome of the
election. "This change was abso-
lutely necessary," Hillman said.
Bill Henderson, election chair-
man, agreed with Hillman, "We
need people who are planning to
go to TSC all four years to lead
the Student Council, and ^ after
they have been here at ° least two
years, the other students know
more fully if they would make

J-Tac Opens
Application for
Editorial Positions
Applications will be accepted
this week for editorial positions on
the J-Tac and the Grassburr, it
was announced this week by Dean
C. Deu Pree, publications advisor.
Editors for tht two publications
must have a "C" average and at
least a "B" in English.
Previous experience on the
staffs of the two publications is
desirable for applicants but is not
a prerequisite.
Both editorships are salaried
positions.
The J-Tac publishes 28 editions
yearly. Because of this large work-
load it is recommended that edi-
tors attend at least one session, of
summer school to lighten their
class programs during the long
semesters. ■
Ten honor points are given for
editorships of either the news-
paper or the yearbook.
Applications should be made to
Mr, Deu Pree in the J-Tac-Grass-
burr office, room 201 • of the Ad-
ministration Building.

Western Week Begins Thursday

Ten'-gallon Stetsons and tame
cowboys will bring a western
spirit to the Tarleton campus
during the annual Western Week
this Thursday through Saturday.
The annual event will include a
parade Saturday morning-, a goat-
sacking contest for the women's
social clubs, a beard growing con-
test, and the rodeo oil Friday and
Saturday.
The rodeo will get underway at
Audie Murphy Arena at 8:00 p.m.
both nights, Events will include
bareback bronc riding, hull riding,
tie-down calf roping, ribbon rop-
ing, and-barrel racings for women.
A calf scramble for-youngsters is
also being planned. Winners in
each of the events will receive a
silver belt buckle, and a pair of
boots will be awarded to the Best
All-Around cowboy.
Howard Stevenson _ and Keith.
Anderson will serve as rodeo
clowns and Todd .Olivar will handle
the announcing. Both Oliver and
Anderson are Tarleton students
and active members of the Rodeo
Tuesday — DST meeting in the
Little Parlor of the Girls" Dorm

ence Building at 6:30 p.m.
Rodeo Club meeting' at 7 p.m. in
the Ag Building.

Howard Payne at the Tejas Coun-
try Club.

tee gave tentative approval. last
week to a recommendation by .-the
Student Council concerning- stu-
dent attire in the Dining Hall.
The recommendation calls for
the approval of wearing Bermuda
-shorts to the evening meals in the
Dining Hall except on Sunday,
the.outlawing of shower slipts, and
disapproval of -wearing jeans in
the Dining Hall on any Sunday.
The Student Activities Commit-
tee emphasized that the action is
-on a trial basis. . ■ <■

Students Attend
Conferences
Two Tnrloton student centers
recently had representatives at-
tending conferences and retreats
this past weekend in Athens and
Palestine.
Two carloads of, students left
Saturday at noon from the Bible
Chair to go to ■ Athens', Texas.
While there they.went'tp four dis-
cussion groups lead by resource
speakers;. The topics discussed
were "Why * follow the Bible
only?", "My place in the church
today, and tomorrow", "liow can
formal education" help my Chris-
tianity", and "How can I teach my
neighbor".

The students returned Sunday af-
ternoon, ^
Six .representatives 'from Tar-
leton left Friday at noon to at-
tend the Baptist - Student Union
Spring^ Planning" Conference in
Palestine. The -'student# -went to
workshops dealing with the work
in the local ,BSU and-during the
time there-they attended a ques-
tion and answer .period and Bible
Study sessions. There was an op-
portunity to - meet, and . talk to
students from , colleges ' through-
out Texas about their local BSU
work. After a Sunday morning
service the students returned to
.Tftrleton. .
Club. Stevenson is a former Tar-
leton student now attending
Weatheri'ord College,
Stock for the rodeo is being
furnished by the M-S Ranch Pro-
ducers, and the rodeo is being
sponsored by the Tarleton Rodeo
club.
Clay Stubbs, Rodeo Club presi-
dent, has urged all students to
wear western attire during the
week.
Student Centers
To Have Display
At Parents' Day
Plans are in the making at the
religious student centers concern-
ing Parents Day, May 6. Three of
the student centers are having a
combined display in the library
concerning the courses that are
taught at the" centers.
The Wesley Foundation, the
Bible Chair, and the Baptist Stu-
dent Union will have a display in
the Study Room of the library. It
will show books and others articles
from the courses that are being
taught.
These centers will also remain
open during Parents Day for any
who would like to visit them.
PARENTS' DAY QUEEN
Voting will be held today for
the election of a queen to pre-
side over- Parents' Day, May B'.

Recreation Hall this morning
