College Badminton Title
BY RUSSELL BURWELL
It ijakes a tennis player to play
badminton,, At least that's what
Don Tompleton, intramural bad-
minton champion thinks.. Temple-
ton, a senior from Loraine, learned
■how--to play badminton whilg, tak-
ing physical education at summer,
school, but he learned to play
tennis in the fifth grade and won
district the next seven years.. He
went to . the regional meet • three,
years.
Tompleton * defeated three men
whom Dr. M. C. Flory, heacl of the
P. E. Deptu'trneiit called "real, good
players" to win the championship.
Temfi.leton defeated. Carlos Salazar
in the first round, Carlos Trujillo
in the second, and Chester Rickel
in the final.
Tompleton sava that, tennis may
have helped his badminton, but
badminton certainly hasn't helped
his tennis. He says that he has
become accustomed to waiting for
a slow birdie and can't get used to
the' fast-moving tennis ball.
Besides being a 7-year letter-
man in tennis, Templeton also let-
tered four years in football.
