The fall term will find quite
a lot of activity going on in the
gymnasium on the campus. Any
place that is used by a number
ot! people will, naturally be sub-
ject to any miscellaneous germs
that come along. One of, the most
common germs to be found around
a gym is that which causes ath-
lete's foot. i
This ' disease is said to be
the third most common disease
seen by skin specialists during
tie summer, and the fifth most
common disorder in winter. It is,
due to a little mold-like growth
or fungus .which thrived best
whore there isjf m oi s t.n.re, and
warmth. Therefore,'"the. feet make
an ideal place for 'the growth- of
this germ. ..
"To have athlete's foot, the in-
fection must be gotten either di-
rectly or indirectly from someone
else,"- states. Dr< Henry A. Holle,
State Health Officer, ".The most
eomnion places to contract the
infection are around shower rooms,
b'aths or bath houses, lOc'ker
rooms, and other _j)ublic . -places
A hm^p.<njsaifs ~^0b -barefoot.- And
it is probable that at least one-
half of all adults suffer from the
infection at some time:"-
The following, measures have
been suggested ..for preventing and
avoiding recurrent attacks Of ath-'
lete's foot:
1.. After bathing, dry careful-
ly and thoroughly the space be-
tween the toes.
2. Liberally apply- a plain, un-
scented talcum to those areas and
sprinkle it freely in socks, stock-
ings, and shoes. _
3. Wear properly fitting hose
that are absorbent but not -too
coarse.
4. Wear shoes that are not too
tight, nor too large. They -should
fit the foot comfortably. .

Itasca. A total of eight letter-
men'are" reutrnirig from tilo" 1953
squad.
Forward Wall
The other three backs, are a
newcomer. Roy Menge from Fort
Worth at one of the halfback po-
sitions; Gene Ward, letterman
from Dallas at the other half-
back slot; and Howatd Meissner,
letterman from Bartlett at full-
back.
Ward also has the distinction
of being co-captain of this year's
eleven. The other co-captain is
Webb Bishop,, letterman center
from .Hearne.
In the forward wall the, two
Tarleton mentors have four -re-
turning lettermen. They are Her-
schel (Tootie) Roach of Killeen
and Chuck Wiliams of Kermit at
the end positions, - William Hunt
of Bowie at the taeke spot, and
Bishop at center.
. Filling in at the two guard
spots and tackle-position are three
newcomers; They are Jerry Mar-
tin and Elliott Hawkins-both'from
Dallas at guards, and Don Walker
of Stamford at tackle.
Last year when the Wranglers
played here' at the beginning of
the season the Plowboys came
out on top by* the score of 20
to 12,
The probable starting lineup:
Harschef (Tootie) .Roach, end.
Chuck Williams, end.
William Hunt, tackle.
Don Walker, tackle.
Jerry Martin, guard.
Eliott Hawkins, guard,
...Webb-Bishop, center.'
