The Wainwrights were organiz-
ed to encourage, preserve, and
develop the highest ideals of the
ROTC; to promote citizenship; to
create a- spirit of fellowship and
"esprit de corps;" and to provide
appropriate' recognition of a high
degree of military proficiency
among cadets of T. S, C,
The Company's outstanding abil-
ity in drill was in evidence while
parading in the San Jacinto Fiesta
at San Antonio, Texas last year.
The veteran commentator of the
Fiesta made the following' com-
ment: "The Wainwright Rifles,
were the highlight of the night
parade. With their intricate- steps-
and their -smartness of dress, they
received mow applause than any
other marching unit in the parade."
This is one of the many school
activities in which the unit par-
ticipates. Some of the other special
activities are the Wainwright
Dance; corps trips, presentation of
honorary queen, escort of May day
queen, a three day trip to San
Antonio, and many other special
events of the college..

aspirants, will compete to enter the
Wainwright Company this yeaf.
Jorge Mariaca of L'a Paz; - Boli-
via,* been awarded, a" Good
Neighbor Scholarship to Tarleton
State College.
The award1- was made by. /the
Texas Education Agancy upon the
recommendation of the Tarleton
Scholarship Committee and has
.been approved by the board of dir-
ectors of the Texas A & M College
System.
The 2.0-year-old Bolivian was
graduated in 1050 from Collegio
San Calixto. He transferred to
Tarleton from Oklahoma A & M
and is majoring in petroleum en-
gineering. He was employed, last
summer in the Bolivian Embassy
in Washington D. C.
In high school, Jorge worked

Tarleton Cannon Has

, The old cannon you see stand-
ing -at the west end of the Ad-
ministration Building is just an-
other cannon 'to most of the fresh-
men, but the old gal has quite' a
story behind her. So .if you will
bear with this little gem, I'll try
to.tali yo.ii.that story.
It; seems that she was given to
us by the Army a long time ago.
But. at the same time 'the Army
gawe one to a little school up the
roisd. Seeing, that I want to keep
out of trouble I'll-try and not men-
tion the name of "the other school."
It is told that someone stole
the cannon belonging to "the other
school," and, we got the blame for
it. So "The other School" came
down and stole our cannon. We be-
ing very, indignant, .went "up and!
stole, it back.
Now between their stealing it
and our retrieving it the old gal.
saw .more of the country than waa
orignally planned when she wa&
The individual is picked according:
to hiss ability- in. precision of drill
and coordination, during a try out
period. These- outs will be held
on a competitive basis.
The officers-, who command the
Wainwrights during-the year are
selected from the members of the
corps by the members of the corps*
made in 1902.
But now she stands embedded in
concrete and chained down on our
campus so that if any high spirit-
ed, fun loving- lad from "the otVftr"
school" tries to take possession "of
it he will find he has quite a
struggles on his hands. , \ ;
The whole thing proves tha
long as, there is a J-TAC spirit
left (and the Concrete and chain:
hold out) no son of N-TAC will:
ever see the mighty weapon on his
dark and dreary campus. ' '4T

der Hall, Davis' Hall, Year-wood

pendents.
Entries should be turned in
the intra mural office as soon as
