Government Prof
Talks to FFA Unit
"It is not the intentions of the
FBI to prove all suspects guilty,
but to prove thone that are free
of guilt innocent" said Dr. 0, A,
Grant in an address to the Tarleton
FFA Collegiate chapter at the re-
gular monthly meeting last night,
night.
Explaining the functions of the
FBI, Grant explained thtat the ef-
ficiency of the FBI and its agen-
cies has been developed to a re-
markable degree. "The analyza-
tion of a single hair has often ser-
ved as circumstantial evidence a-
gainst a suspect" related the tall
ex-FBI agent as an example of the
efficiency of the FBI.
The bureau maintains a finger-
print file that contains the prints
of millions of United States citi-
zens, Also included in this file are
the prints of many aliens to this
country. After less than five min-
utes in locating the prints of sus-
pect, the fingerprint file clerks
can notify those inquiring about
the owner of the certain prints.
The government professor con-
tinued his speech by further ex-
plaining the functions of the many
laboratories dealing with FBI
work. He also tolil of some of the
criminal cases that have been sol-
ved by the FBI with the help of
local enforcement offices.
"Without the general coopera-
tion of most of the citizens of the
United States, this highly trained
organization would be helpless"
said Grant concluding his speech.
Grant, a native of Breckenridge,
received his B. A, degree at Har-
din-Simmons Univeristy. He later
attended Georgetown University in
Washington, D. C. From 1939 until
1941 he attended school there while
working for the FBI and recei-
ved his M. A. degree.
He immediately Unlisted in the
Naval Air Corps and served until
after the duration of the war. He
was stationed in the Pacific for 3d
months. The major portion of his
work there was working in the
submarine patrol.
In 1945 Grant returned to Wash-
ington and resumed his work with
the FBI. He worked as a private
secretary to J. Edgar Hoover, rece-
iving his Ph. D. degree in 1947 af-
ter years of interrupted study.
Through personal contact with
Dick Smit^i, a native of his home
town, Grant came to Tarleton as
a professor in government and his-
tory four years ago.
