A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, % Abilene Machine Co., Abilene, Texas, from R. D. Hill, Los Angeles 5, California, dated January 12, 1951. Hill advises of the progress of his coffee business stating, "As things appear today, there is justification for believing that it will be but a short time before reasonable rewards are in their shaping." He confides, "We may or may not be able to obtain contracts for furnishing various government projects with coffee extract—we will operate henceforth in a secret manner." This collection was assembled by Thomas Norwood Carswell (1887-1978) and contains correspondence throughout his life. His files hold letters signed by most of the major political leaders of Texas during the 1940s through the 1960s, as well as letters signed by Presidents Harry S Truman, Richard M. Nixon, Senator Lyndon B. Johnson, and George Washington Carver. It also contains a scrapbook of his time at Simmons College.
