New York productions and the sine

they are better than anywhere else is a
mistake. Vance Fulkerson's girls st

this talk of naughty New Yor't is

Plenty or Good Show.
New York never had a period when
there were more good shows than now.
With "Abraham Lin cola." "Ughtnin'"
the revived -Fioroaora- Willie col-
lier's "Hottentot" Belasco's "Gold
Diggers." and others of merit running
here there are plenty of worth whil?
attractions. "Florodora" Is a great
production as revived by the Shu-
berta. and let us hope it goes on tour I
of the country. The costumes ?re as '
elaborate as the designer can make '
them and you can't beat the tuneful f
old songs that made this play the
rage of twenty years ago when John
Dyer and "Will Burgee ad the rest of
us were young men.
Some new songs have been woraed
into the attraction and some of h
jokes have been wrought up to date

Jokes that were a part or the original

are good today because they have
been forgotten or are applicable
again.
Old Time Jokes.
For Instance. Tweedie Punch the
phrenologist springs one to this ef-
fect: "Love is the only luxury that s
not taxed today." It was written at
a time when we had the tax on things
following the Spanish war and it
didn't have to be changed a bit to
apply It today.
And you still laugh when someone
asks him what you would call an
80 rear-old man and he says: "An
octogeranlum. That Joke was writ
ten over l years ago ana it gets urn
many laughs at the Century theater
today as Lew Dockstader's newest
puns get at Keith's.
And this one still years old.

better today than It did 2 years ago
for anything that rexers to our na-
tional drouth gets a laugh or a hiss In
a New Tork theater.
The whole burden of all the down-
ing In the Barnum & Bailey circus
at Madison Square garden is prohi-
bition and liquor.
And by the way. this circus is one
of the real attractions in New Tork
today. They are going on the road
in May but they have been packing
the garden for a month. Dexter Fel-
lows of the press department had all
the newspaper publishers as his
guests this week.
The Great Hippodrome.
The Hippodrome management also
had us there. It is such a stupendous
thTnsT that as the youthful reporter
would sav. "It beggars description."
The last scene Is positively astonish-
ing. The Hippodrome Is one thing in
New Tork that has not been over ad-
vertlsed and any visitor who falls
to see it Is missing something worth
wMle.
With over 2M girls swinging ap-
parently in midair ansoag the moons
and the stars en the Klant stage the
arrest spectacle Is closed with about
forty girls marching right up out of
a huge tank of water along the front
of the stage carrying Neptune forks
that spout water: then a tremendous
flow of water looking like the
Niagara bursts forth between the
audience and the a winging girls and
fountains across the front of the
stage play their sprays back over the
water nymphs. Colored lights add to
the beautv of the thing.
It would seem that in the produc-
tion of this spectacle human ingenu-
ity h.s reachad the heisrht of Its ac
complishment. It Is not a delusion. The;
publishers were placed in boxes so
they could see the workings of the
whole thing. Those girts aciuaiiy
came up eat of the water. Just as
calmly as if they were climbing the
grand staircase in the Waldorf-Astoria.
. .
New Tork Is a great place to be
amused if you pick the right enter-
tainment. It is the greatest place to
be buncoed in the world if you follow
the crowd and go to the places ad-
vertised the biggest ont "In the
