THE GALLEON
dreds of yards ahead of me. I caught up to them at
the pond.
"Did any of you grab the spears?" I panted.
"Candice, those spears were the furthest
thing from my mind when that piano started play-
ing," Dustin said, trying to keep his voice from
quivering.
"That was really scary. I don't want to
play house there anymore," Gracie cried.
"What kind of vacation is this?" Asked
Sarah.
"Guys," Megan started, "we have to prom-
ise that we will never go near that place again.
That old man was right, and if I ever see, or hear
anything like that again, you can all come visit me
in Big Spring."
"Well, I promise," I said.
"It's not a problem for me," Katlyn said.
"Me either," said Coy.

and I saw Sarah and all my cousins holding hands
and walking into the pond. I ran after them and
screamed their names. They couldn't hear me. I
hurried after them and the water was so cold. But
it was too late. They were all at the bottom of the
pond. I sat up with a jolt. Sweat was pouring from
me. It was morning and I had to convince myself it
was only a dream. Sarah was sleeping peacefully,
and I immediately went into each room to check on
everyone. Dustin and Coy were out cold. I went to
the girl's room and saw Megan sleeping soundly.35
