THE GALLEON
brothers, not far apart in age, dedicated to building
forts, exploring the woods, and tormenting each
other. They looked so peaceful now, with their
little cherub faces and dark hair. I climbed onto the
bed and began jumping up and down. Then my
rude awakening was met with flying pillows and a
quick shove off the bed. The boys laid back down
and slept on as if they had never opened their eyes.
"Come on guys." I whined. "Let's go do
something."
"There is nothing to do but sleep." Dustin
said with a yawn.
"Sure there is. Let's go catch some grass-
hoppers and freeze them, or go exploring. Come
on. I will be fun," I said.
Slowly, but surely, the boys rose like zombies and
rubbed their eyes.
"Well every good explorer needs a good
breakfast," Coy said. "I wonder what Grandmother
is making."
"Wait. Shouldn't we wake up the girls?
And Gracie, too! I almost forgot she was here. We
can't possibly go exploring without them," I said.
"Good idea. We can use your good morn-
ing technique, Candice. It seems to be a fast work-
ing method," Dustin said slyly.
The boys ran upstairs to where Megan, Katlyn, and
Gracie were sleeping. I went to wake up Sarah. It
didn't take long to drag them out of bed, and then
we rushed down to breakfast.
After we ate it was unanimously decided
that we would go exploring and pretend we were
Indians. Only one thing was missing. We needed
spears. The seven of us walked into the woods29
