  • Display Note: The new Deaf Smith County Library opened in June 1974 at a cost of $480,872. It was 10,000 square feet. Gwen London served as librarian in old building and moved to the new one. Books were moved in wholesale grocery carts. It became a member of Panhandle Library System in 1974. Later it joined the Herrington Library Consortium in 1986. Rebecca Walls started with the library in 1976 and became director in 1984.
