board because Puny has put 185
pounds of weight on his big foot.
"Get off my foot!" yelps Treetop
in pain.
"Get them pancakes out of the
way or I'll make waffles out of
them," Puny retorts.
Treetop hustles back on the de-
fense. He is practically our whole de-
fense because he just reaches up and
takes the opponents' shots out of the
goal. However, the runt has an an-
swer to this.
The Treetop takes his position un-
der the basket as the Wyoming team
brings the ball down court. As one
of them starts to shoot, Puny reaches
up and jerks a wad of hair out of
Talle's leg. Treetop leaps into the
air like he is shot; the ball falls into
the hoop for two points.
Puny laughs, "Say, Treetop, you
didn't tell me you could do the la
conga! "
Well, by this time the Treetop is
practically biting himself. The runt
is getting away with murder and not
getting caught, which greatly puz-
zles the big pivot man.
Still it goes on until the game is
nearly over. The Treetop is so dizzy
he thinks he is having spots before
his eyes every time the ball passes. The great Treetop looks life a weep-
ing willow.
To make matters worse the referee
happens to be Blind Tom Jansco, who
is noted for his constant run-ins with
the Treetop in other games. Talle
had long aroused his ire, and he
wasn't any too anxious to please the
Lig center. Even after the Treetop
has protested to the ref about the
runt's tactics, he pays no attention.
Finally the game is over. We hate
to get beat, but we are glad to see
Treetop get his due. He didn't make
a point!
I go over to congratulate the pee-
wee.
"Say, you sure stopped the Tree-
top," I congratulate him.
"Aw, he's just like a tree-just a
big sap," he says modestly.
"Yeah, but how did you get away
with all that fouling ?" I asks.
He grins, "Well, it's a little secret.
You see, that ref happens to be my
brother-in-law, and you don't know
my sister, man!"
Well, the Treetop has been pruned
and budded. He is called Bud Talle
around the campus now. But he has
turned over a flock of new leaves. I
guess it took a midget to peel the
bark off and show what a sap the
Treetop really is.My love was like a thirsty flame
Which hungered with consuming,
Until she, like a fragile bud,
Was scorthed and kept from blooming.
