don't care about anything so

and Victorine could say, "and I
don't neither."
In The White Monkey we find
Galsworthy departing from his
customary practice of picturing
a conflict between the 'submerg-
ed tenth' and the 'upper crust.'
Fraternity is a good example of
this kind of conflict, but his
new novel is a story of the social
unrest of people who are famil-
iar to us. Another Galsworth-
ian trait evidenced in "Silver
Box" and "Justice" is to preseit
no solution to the conflict in-
volved, but in his latest story
we feel that the author answers
favorably the charge of flip-
pancy brought against the pres-
ent generation. By means of
contrast he shows how the two
young couples differ from their
parents, but reaches the encour-
aging conclusion that the young
people are only working out for
themselves the cause of true
happiness.
One writer in the "Saturday
Evening Review" says of "The
White Monkey" and its author:
"I am not sure that it is not his
finest novel."Ask

Background, are struck with golden bars;
The Sky-Gods in the west have spread
Their cloudy nets to catch the stars.
