The names of Russell and
Remington, like Rogers and
Hammerstein in show music,
have been linked together in
reference to their faithful re-
cording of Western Art in
America. Each painter in his
separate way, has caught the
essence of the West at its wild
and wooly best, capturing mo-
ments of history in vivid color,
violent action, breathtaking de-
tail and. at times, phenomenal
sensitivity to the emotions of
human and animal subjects
alike. "Realism" is at its best in
Russell and Remington. Each
painting is like a single frozen
frame of a John Ford western
movie, although it is more likely
historically that John Ford f .
shioned his movies after the
paintings.
The opening of the Russell
and Remington Exhibition will
be celebrated by a gala evening
- Western Style - sponsored by
the Art Center Membership
Committee on Saturday, Janu-
ary 13th (S25.00 per couple)
Proceeds from the benefit open
ing will be applied directly to
the Art Center's operating fund
through the membership Res
ervations for the benefit open
ing may be obtained by calling
the Amarillo Art Center, 806
