Workers sought for
survey work here
Local workers are being
sought to assist with an
employment survey to be taken
in Hemphill County starting
next week. June 9. Training of
the paid workers is being held
today, (Thursday) and tomor-
row at, the Hemphill County
Courthouse. The survey will be
conducted between the hours
of 4 and 9 in the evening
beginning Monday. June 9. The
survey, which is being done in
cooperation with the Canadian
Chamber of Commerce, Lonnie
Donaldson, president, will
determine factors affecting
employment and provide a
basis for planning future
manpower development pro-
grams.
This county is one of six rural
counties in the Texas High
Plains area selected for the
employment research survey
which is being conducted by the
Texas Agricultural Experiment
Station and Texas Agricultural
Extension Service, Texas A&M
University as part of a pilot
project under the Rural
Development Act of 1972.
Interviewers will contact
households to obtain informa-
tion that will represent all
families of the area. Interview-
ers will be wearing Texas A&M
University name tags and will
have identification cards as
they call on households in the
county. County Agent Warren
Pickens says that, while the
survey is not of a personal
nature, all individual informa
tion will be kept confidential.
Each household will be
selected by a scientific
sampling procedure to repre-
sent about 250 other house-
holds. For this reason "full
cooperation is important to the
success of the survey" Pickens
states.
After completion of the
interviews by June 20. the
information will be analyzed to
determine employee needs and
problems in the Panhandle
area. The survey report will be
made available to local groups
and state and federal agencies
concerned with manpower
programs.
