Sheriff H. E. Nix is in receipt of
an anonymous ll-tter from some one
in Commerce charging that three
different establishments here are
operating stills in the back parts of
their places of business,
also accuses the sheriff
corrupt and in league with
leged booze makers and dispensers,
and states that if he doesn’t stop
the business the writer will go to
Austin and lay the matter before! °w-
the State authorities. !‘*e wU1 of «>"*ebody else-just
Sheriff Nix came to Commerce; P18^ Wlth-
and called on the men accused and'
investigated their places of business,
but failed to find any trace of a
still. The letter which he received
was typewritten and no clue was,
given to the identity of the writer. I
The sheriff now asks that this let- I
ter writer, who was not bold
enough to sign his name, come out
in the open and tell or show exact-
ly where these stills are. If he
knows and won’t tell, he is as bad
as he accuses the other fellows of
being. If he doesn’t know, writing
such a letter is a lower down trick
than bootlegging liquor.
The sheriff is waiting
from him.
