Woman Is Jailed
On Complaint Of
Cattle Theft
ROBY i Spl. t — A 34-year - old
Roby woman was in Fisher Coun-
ty jail here Wednesday night charg-
ed with cattle theft.
Mrs. Jimmie Gale Etter Per-
kins and Edward Brown. 39. Roby
Negro, were charged with theft
of cattle Wednesday in Magis-
trate Court presided over by Coun-
ty Judge Bruce McCain.
Bond for the pair was set at
S2.000 each, and Mrs. Perkins—
a white woman—was reported in
the process of making bond.
Sheriff Bus Roilans said both
Brown and Mrs. Perkins, had told.
him thai she shot a .22 rifle and!
killed a cow and a calf owned by i
Hollis Head. Roby justice ot the I
Peace.
According to Roilans, the inci-
dent or cured between 9 and 10!
p. m. Tuesday on ihe old "Doc"
Oaus place at the edgeof Roby.'
The house and land now are the
property of Mrs. Gaylon Davis
Etter mother of Mrs. Perkins. Mrs.
Perkins lives at the bouse with her
mother.
Head evidently had made ar-
rangements to graze the cow and
calt on the land, officers surmised.
Roilans said Mrs. Perkins and
Brown, after she shot the cow and
calf, tied the calf to the back of
her car and dragged it down the
old Roby-Anson Road toward Roby.
The rope broke, the car died and
the pair left it setting.
Afer they .'eft .someone spotted
the car and dead calf and reported
it to Roilans.
Roilans arrested Brown about 1
a. m. Wednesday at his home, and
around 8 a. m. Mrs. Perkins came
to Roilans office and said she had
shot the cow and calf.
Action against the pair is sub-
ject to action of a district grand
jury which is due to meet here in
October.
