A WORD ON CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP For the next few
weeks, we will carry a few lines encouraging you to consider Christian
stewardship, from the Stewardship Committee of the Board ofTrustees.
This week’s quote is from committee member LaVera Twine.
YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD IS CHANGING. This church sits
between two major universities, and on a major north-south thoroughfare.
And your church has a major impact on the redevelopment of the Scott
Street corridor. We are diligently working together on the development of
that major thoroughfare, and as we pull things together, we’ll keep you
informed!
DO YOU HAVE SATURDAY AFTERNOON OPEN? This is the
Saturday when your church makes history. Your own Boy Scout Troop
242 announces fourteen—fourteen—Eagle Scouts at one time! Never in
scouting history has such an achievement been recorded. The fourteen
boys are:
[1] And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the
treasury.
[2] And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.
[3] And he said, Of a truth I say un to you, tha t this poor widow ha th
cast in more than they all:
[4] For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of
God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

WHEELER KIDS DID IT AGAIN. Last week the whole church was
blessed by a youth revival put on by our young people. They invited a
powerful young preacher, Rev. Henry Batson, Ill, from Dallas. They backed
him with music from our own Chapel Choir, Youth Praise Group, and
newly-formed band, and with groups from sister churches. And they
spoke to the needs of all of us, not just the needs of youth. Thanks to Youth
Minister Rev. Kyra Hinckson, our music staff and our Communications
Corps, this has been an anointed week. Fabulous work, kids! You lifted
His Name!

This unprecedented Eagle Scout ceremony will take place on Saturday,
August 16, at 2:00 p. m., in this sanctuary. The Eagle badge is the highest
award in scouting, and virtually guarantees success in adulthood. Come
and be proud of your boys.
