two hours after it happened.
The subscribers of the Nortnn
Coalfield Press, a modest but
growing "country weekly,' were
reading about the bank robbery
before many of the large news-
papers knew it .had happened.
It wasn't cue of those stories
that happens i'glit in front of the
newspaper, either. The hank was
robbed in Found, Virginia, 20 mi.
to the north over rugged mountain
roads.
Not Much News
It was shortly after noon in
Norton on the day that the Coal-
field I'rojrrcss was to go to press.
The paper had been mad ' up with
accounts of meetings and soci >ty
items laboriously gathered from
the clubs and churches and PTA
of a; through the week.
chn.'o; Carroll Tate, a lankly, dark-hair
within j od young man *\ho calls himself
"general flunky" for the paper
and who is its reporter and busi-
ness manager, was relaxing in fhe
office.
A pressman, just returning from
i lunch, walked in and fremarked'
casually: j
"We'd better throw out the front the

Then he added, still ca-malle.

Held Those Presses?!
As Tate finished talking to Barr,
state troopers brought in 1 he three
men for Barr to Identify them.
The money was recovered.
Tate sped back to Norton, wrote
