NEW COMMERCIAL
Graham Heights Lodge has
been opened on Bear Creek by
Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Strange, for-
merly of Amarillo.
Three concrete tile units and
the operators’ home have been
completed. The Stranges next
plan to build a store and dry
boat storage.
Mr. Strange reports they tra-
velled over the country to fish
and long had talked of opening
a commercial camp. Recently
they decided Whitney was the
prettiest lake and Fort Graham
Heights was the best site for a
new. camp.

2 DROWN JULY 4th
Two drowned and two others
were rescued in a July 4 tra-
gedy at the mouth of Towash
Creek.
Carolyn Edwards, 11, and a
brother, James Edwards, 9, Dal-
las, were the victims. A young-
er brother, Roger, 5, and the
childrens’ grandfather, Henry
Smith, were saved by Avon Aut-
rey, Ferris, and James Harda-

Witnesses said the Edwards
children were wading and little
Roger first got in water over
his head. Carolyn and James
were reported to have gone after
Roger and got in trouble. Mr.
Smith rushed to the rescue with-
out taking off his shoes or clo-
thes and also went under.
Camping nearby, Autry ran
to the rescue and pulled Roger
from the water. Hardaway boat-

Smith.
The victims, children of Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Edwards, were
recovered an hour later by a
