it," said Scott, “more than one-third of the
world's population will be within broad-
cast range of the gospel from that one sta-
tion. WCBC will make it possible to
penetrate foreign countries with the gospel
even though their borders may be closed,
or even though we may have too few mis-
sionaries to reach into those countries."
Currently, WCBC is preparing programs
for broadcast, as well as planning
strategies for the future. “Our first station
will be Alaska, with other stations pro-
jected for the Caribbean Sea and the In-

dian Ocean,” Scott said. “From those I
three sites, most of the world’s population I
can be brought within broadcast range of I
the gospel.’’
Programming will be designed to attract
and to hold the largest possible listening
audience. Thus, directors plan to include
some non-religious programs such as news
and music, as well as programs that deal
with health care or agriculture. “When
listeners understand that our stations are
sources of useful information,” Scott said,
“they will also stay tuned to carefully
prepared messages from God's word."
Scott said that once the application to the
FCC is filed for the Alaskan station, it is
expected to be another year before a per-
mit to build is granted. Construction of the
station will take another year. “It has been I
the WCBC objective to file our FCC ap-
plication this summer, before September,
if possible," Scott said.
Since there is increasing pressure from
other nations of the world to restrict, and
possibly eliminate the issuance of addi-
tional permits to build short wave radio
stations, “We must move ahead with
urgency," Scott said. "In a world of 4.5
billion people, people are dying every day
without knowledge of pur lx>rd."
Scott has appealed to Christians to send
the most generous gift they can, as soon as
they can. Contributions to the corporation

and ten-year goals. A quarterly news-
letter, edited by Matheny, will give church
leaders up-to-date information on church
growth among churches of Christ.
Schubert said the Center for Church
Growth “is the most effective way to strike
a spark for church growth in the congrega-
tion."
Speaking on behalf of the board of the
Center, Schubert said, “We are extremely
happy to have been able to secure the ser-
vices of Tim Matheny for this vital role.
Tim to highly trained in the field of church
growth and communicates well with
church loaders." Matheny holds a
Master’s degree in Church Growth and
served the Madtoon church for nearly four
years.
Persons or churches desiring more in-
formation may write to the Center for
Church Growth, P.O. Bea THU, Houston,

ABILENE, Texas - Urgently appealing
for immediate financial support, World
Christian Broadcasting Corporation
reported the importance of filing for a per-
mit to build their proposed short wave
radio station as soon as possible.
According to Robert E. Scott, President
of WCBC, the Federal Communications
Commission requires complete funding of
the station itself, to be located in Alaska,
plus the first three month's operating ex-
penses, before application can be made for
a permit to build. A projected $1.7 million
is needed to file, and as of last month,
$250,000 has been raised, according to
Scott.
WCBC had previously secured the
strategic location at Anchor Point, south of
Anchorage, Alaska, to build a radio station
enabling them to broadcast by short wave
into most of China, much of the Soviet
Union, and many parts of Asia. “Think of
