GOULD LECTURES ON OIL SUBJECT
Stillwater. Okla.. Dec. 20.—Sixty-five
per cent the world’s supply of pe-
troleuni comes’from the United Staten,
and Oklahoma leads the nation in this
production. Charles N. Gould, geologi-
eal engineer, told member** of the Red-
lands elub at Stillwater in a lecture
this week.
Oklahoma will be producing oil for
fifty years, according to the predic-
tion of the geologist. Probably one-half
to tw^ethirds of the oil territory of
Oklahoma has been discovered and
probably onoAhird of the oil has been
taken from the ground. These figures.
Mr. Gould warned hi* bearer*, were
purely apeculative.

about five million feet of gas at 480

immense advantage to Ardmore, as well

Gould explained the geological prin-

gas with the anticlinal theory. Gas.
oil and water, he said, will arrange
themselves in the order of their *-j*e-
cific gravity with the water at the but-
ton. oil in the middle, and the gas on
top. This fact, he said, is vital to oil
geology. He pointed out that the anti
cline, which is a high place or anh in
the rocks, varying greatly in length
and breadth, does not make oil. but sim-
ply furnishes the reservoir to store oil.
It is a mistaken theory, he said, that
all oil is found under anticlines. The
other oil-bearing structures, including
faults, terraces, lentils. |>orous rocks,
etc., were discussed.
The drill is the only absolutely sure
method of proving the presence of oil
and gas, said Mr. Gould. Oil geology is

a well that is reported to fie good for
150 to 200 barrels. That a big field
will be opened in the Fox district is
now beyond -question and many local
people who have tracts of acreage in
this section are making arrangements
for immediate development. The Gypsy

that they are now moving steel storage

this morning to inspect the new well.
