nament, to be held there under the..
auspices of Howard Payne college,

resented by Captain McCloskey and
one oi’ three others chosen from
among Keller, Ochoa, Warner and
Kossbiel.

were all invited to participate and it
is expected that each school will be
represented by at least two men.

St. Edward’s tried every way
the world to stop the onslaught
the San Marcos Teachers, even
using four pitchers, but the Bob-
cats would not be denied and the
Saints went down, 6-4. The game
was played at San Marcos, on Tues-
day, April 16.
In the fourth inning Jansing cut
loose with his tree trunk, and bounc-
ed a ball ovex* the center fielder’s
head for three bases, and then he
went home on the fielder’s overthrow
to third. Vest, Bobcat catcher, also
connected with the apple for a three-
base clout, with one man on.
the only hit the Bobcat
managed to get.
Guerra Makes Star Catch
Smith, the Teacher second sacker,
robbed Bomba of a hit in the sixth
inning, when he made a flying stab
at the ball and then threw it with
the same hand, putting Bomba out
at first base. It was one of the
most spectacular plays of the season.
Guerra, Saint right fielder, also made
a beautiful catch of Clark’s long
smash to right in the fifth. .The
Saint fielder pursued the ball part
way up the cliff in the San Marcos
park, and then speared it just as it
looked as if he wasn’t going to make
it.
The most effective pitching of the
evening was done by Smith, curve
ball artist of the Bobcats, who went
in late in the game to stop a Saint
rally. He stopped it.
The lucky seventh was the big
inning for the Saints, and it looked
for a time as though they might win
out, but a strikeout with three men
on gummed the works. Rivas walk-
ed, went to second on a wild pitch,
and then trotted down to third on
Guerra’s single to center. McDonald
was hit by a pitched ball, filling the
bases. Parma dribbled a weak of-
fering out to the pitcher’s feet, but
Rivas scored on the play. Parma was
out at first base. Curley James then
delivered with a single, and Guerra
scored. Burger tried to sacrifice,
but McDonald was out at the plate.
Jansing then walked, and Curley
scored on a wild pitch, making three
runs. Bomba looked four over,
again filling the bases, and San Mar-
cos changed pitchers. Smith struck
out Watty James with three men on.

The Little Potatoes were easily
peeled by the Varsity nine in a prac-
tice game, Sunday morning, April 7,
by the score of 6-1. The game was
loosely played but interesting
thoughout.
Both teams went scoreless for the
first three innings. In the fourth
the Varsity started the scoring with
four runs, taking the lead which was
maintained throughout the game.
Their runs came as a result of a bar-
rage of hits that greeted the offer-
ings of Figari, the hurler for the
Little Potatoes.
The Spuds scored their only run
of the game in the sixth inning, when
Figari doubled to left field, went to
third on White’s grounder to pitch,
and then came home on Krause’s in-
field out. Ransom, the next man up,
struck out, which ended the rally for
the Little Potatoes.
In the same inning, the Varsity
completed their scoring when they
made ■ two runs. With two down,
Guerra walked and was followed by
Beach, and both scored on Burger’s
drive down the third base line. W.
James singled to center and was
thrown out at second trying to
