Cats kept pace in the third
quarter, but couldn’t take a
piece out of the lead, ending
that quarter 43-24. In the final
period, the Comanches took
command, racking up 21 more
points, and holding the Cats to
only 7 for a decisive 64-31 vic-
tory.

COMING UP: The Canadian
Jayvee drew a first-round
match against Gruver in this
weekend’s Junior Varsity Tour-
nament in Gruver. That game
begins Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
The winner of that round will
face the winner of the Sun-
ray/Spearman game to be
played at 7:00 p.m. the same
evening. Other Thursday
matches will be Highland
Park/West Texas at 4:00 p.m.,
and Stratford/Perryton at 5:30.
The finals will be played Satur-
day starting at 10:00 a.m. for
the consolation round, and at
1:00 p.m. for the champion-
ship.

whole way in Tuesday
afternoon’s 64-31 win over the
Cats. Canadian’s Kevin Zenor
paced the scoring for the Cats,
putting up 7 two-pointers and
a free-throw for a 15-point
VARSITY GIRLS at
W.T. HIGH
The Lady Wildcats lost a
close one to West Texas High
Tuesday, in a 41-37 game
which the Cats lead in the
second and third quarters.
Canadian was lagging 2 points
at the end of the first period,
but perked up in the second to
pick up another 19, while hold-
ing the Lady Comanches to
only 9, for a first half score of
27-19. WT closed the gap to 1
in the third quarter, sinking 10
points and holding the Cats to
only 3. They finished the fourth
quarter outscoring Canadian
12 to 7, for a final 41-37 Com-
anche win.
Leading the game in scoring
was WTs Tessa Payne with 14.
Canadian’s Tisha Carr held
her own with 10 on the board,
and Adrienne Vanhooser
brought in 9.

p.m. in the first round of this
weekend’s Shamrock Lions
Club Invitational, to be held

Paducah vs. Samnorwood and
Alamo Catholic vs. Shamrock.
Canadian’s second round
match-up will begin Friday at
7:00 p.m. in either the junior
high or high school gym-
nasium. Championship and
consolation rounds will be held
on Saturday at noon and 6 p.m.
in the high school gym.

Blaine Bivins and Kevin
Flowers lead the Wildcat scor-
ing in Tuesday night’s 70-50
loss to the West Texas High
Comanches. Flowers came
through with 15 points on the
game, and Bivins was right be-
hind with 14. Stinnett’s Wat-
son posted a game-high of 18,
with teammate Monden run-
ning a close second with 16
points.
Canadian’s Bivins and
Steven Flowers were par-
ticularly effective on the
boards, leading in rebounding
for the game.
The Cats took a 10-point
lead in the first quarter at 20-
10, but lost ground before half-
time, and were tied up 30-30 at
the first half buzzer. West
Texas came out hot in the
third holding Canadian to
only S points while they racked
up 28, a lead which they held
through the fourth quarter to
take the game 70-50.
Coach Kyle Lynch said the
Cats were particularly weak in
the free throw department,
sinking onlv 15 of 40, to WTs
13 of 23.

COMING UP: The Wildcats
head to Shamrock Thursday
afternoon for first-round play
against Quanah in the Sham-
rock Lions Club Invitational.
The Quanah/Canadian game
will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the
high school gym. The winner of
that game will play the winner
of the Alamo Catholic/Sham-
rock game on Friday at 8:30
p.m at the high school. The
losers of both games will play
Friday at 8:30 in the junior
high gymnasium. Other first-
round pairings are Childress
vs. Wheeler and Paducah vs.
Samnorwood.
The finals will begin Saturday
afternoon, with the consolation
round at 1:30 p.m. followed by
games at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. All
finals will be played in the high
school gymnasium.

5:00 p.m. Tuesday
The Lady Wildcat Jayvee
lead in every quarter but the
one that counts in Tuesday
afternoon’s 41-38 loss to Stin-
nett. It was close but consis-
tent, with Canadian ahead
14-12 in the first period, 22-20
in the second, stretching it just
a bit to 31-26 in the third
quarter, and letting it slip
away in the final minutes of
the game.
WTs Jenny McDaniel fired
up in the fourth, to sink triple
3-pointers, a 2-pointer, and two
free-throws in a surprising
come-from-nowhere perfor-
mance to give her team the
game. She lead her team’s scor-
ing with 20 game points.
Hilary Brown hit the net for 9
points in all, followed by Becky
Lee with 6.
