Mrs. Mollie V. Abernathy,
a resident of Rice Springs
Care Home, Haskell, was the
guest of honor Sunday at a
luncheon party celebrating
her 90th birthday in the home
of her grandson and his wife,
Mr. and Mrs. George
Abernathy.
Other guests were her son
and his wife, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Abernathy; her
granddaughter and her
husband, Mr. and Mrs. Marty
Tabor; and Rev. and Mrs.
Elmer Ward and Dennis.
Mrs. Abernathy attended
services Sunday at the
Church of Christ.
Mrs. Abernathy was born
July 1,1884. Desiring to spend
her 90th birthday fishing, her
family took her to Lake
Stamford Monday to fulfill
that wish.

Geraldine Mitchell of
Aspermont has been named
to the Merit List at Western
Texas College, Snyder, for
the 1974 spring semester, Dr.
Ben Brock, vice president of
WTC, has announced.
Students named to the
Merit List must be enrolled
for more than eight semester
hours at WTC and make a
grade point average of at
least 3.5, WTC is one of West
Texas' newest institutions of
higher education and offers a
balanced curriculum of both
academic and occupational-
technical subjects.
Site of the first of four arti-
ficial reefs (to be constructed
of surplus Liberty ships) has
been approved in the
Galveston-Freeport area.

Texas Tech in December,

graduate of New Deal High
School and is employed by
Lubbock Electric Co.
The bridegroom's parents
