and Mrs. Essie L. McDowell,
was given Thursday by the
personnel of the Aspermont
Independent School District.
A noon luncheon was
served in the cafeteria. Each
retiree was presented a
watch from their fellow

Mrs. McMeans, a third
grade teacher, completed 27
years of teaching, 18 of which
were in the local school
system, at the end of the 1973-
74 school year. She has also
taught in Dickens, Baylor and
Kent counties.
She is a graduate of Spur
High School and Texas Tech
University.
She and her husband
Wayne have two children,
Elizabeth Anderson of
Oklahoma City, Okla., and
Billy Wayne McMeans of
Jayton. They also have seven
grandchildren.
Mrs. McMeans has no
definite plans for the future
except to stay home, relax
and enjoy her family. She
also hopes to travel with her
husband.
Mrs. McDowell, lunchroom
supervisor since 1961,
completed 20 years of em-
ployment with the school
system.
Mrs. McDowell has six
children, Mrs. Revena Myers
of Valley Mills, Orthell
McDowell of Old Glory,
Charles McDowell of
Floydada, Mrs. Frances
McMahon of Channing, Doug
McDowell of Willi, Calif., and
Mrs. Barbara Lawrence of
Rochester. She has 19
grandchildren.
She has no definite plans
for the future except to visit
her grandchildren as often as
possible and enjoy her
family.
The Old Glory Seniors left
Saturday on their senior trip.
Their plana included a week
at "Wilderness in the Pines"
near Bastrop. There tbey
were looking forward to such
activities as golf, tennis,
hayrides, horseback riding,
fishing, swimming, and
water skiing on Bastrop
Lake.
They will conclude their
trip with a two-day stay at Six
Flags, and while at Arlington,
they g!aa to see a Teass
Ranger baseball game.
_ Two senior boys, Isaac
Castro and rreddy Barren
are making the trip with their
class sponsor, Bill McKee.
The following Old Glory
students received awards for
having a 90 or above grade
average this year: Isaac

Carmella Vahlenkamp, Pete

Sherri Alvis, Denise Pierce,
Tom Lee Rhoads, Vernette
Rhodes, Ronnie Wendeborn,
Kim Pierce, Maribel Castro,
and Shawna Vahlenkamp.
Those receiving a perfect
attendance award were Jami
Pierce, Marcene Baldree and
Pete Castro.
School officials have an-
nounced that the Old Glory
School will be eligible to add a
half-unit in vocational
homemaking to the
curriculum for next year.
Visitors in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Morris Garner over
the weekend included Mrs.
Dan Parkhurst and three
children of Sweetwater, and
also Mr. and Mrs. Loy
Garner, Jar.a and Julie of
Abilene. Jana is spending thin
week here with the Garners.
