Shortly after graduation, Dr.
Lewis entered the Public Health
Service and was assigned to the
Indian Health Service. He was
chief of hospital dental service
at Lawton, Okla,, and later at
Ship Rock, N. M. Dr. Lewis
Ijoined the Division of Dental
;Health in 1966. As Regional
fDental Care Consultant in
Region IV, he was instrumental
in setting up the first com-
prehensive neighborhood health
centers in Southeastern states.
He eaarned an M.P.H. degree
from the University of Michigan
in 1969.
Dr. Lewis's parents are Mr.
and Mrs. Virgil "Chic" Lewis of
Price near Tyler. His father
was serving as depot agent at
- Old Glory when Gene was born.
Mrs. Joe Searcy of Asper-
gmont is Dr. Lewis's aunt.
| Heavy rains fell here again
over the weekend. From three
to five inches were reported in
the northern part of the com-
munity. Lightning played havoc
Saturday night, and in some
parts of the area and homes
were without electricity for
several hours.
About thirty-five friends and
relatives enjoyed a barbecue
supper at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Garrett Spitzer Saturday
night, honoring him on his
birthday. Those who attended
came from Abilene, Stamford,
Sagerton and Old Glory.
The Old Glory Variety Club
met in the home of Mrs. Bill
Wright on Tuesday of last week.
Eight members were present.
They enjoyed refreshments and
games.
Mrs. E. H. Diers will be the
hostess for the next meeting in
her home on Tuesday, Oct. 23,
at 2 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wright
visited friends in San Aagelo
recently.
Rex Flowers spent Saturday
here with Mr. and Mrs. Lynn
Flowers.
Mr. and Mrs. Loy Zane
Garner and children of Abilene
spent the weekend here with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris
Garner.
Dinner guests in the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Les Houseworth
Sunday included the J. V.
Ritenours of Abilene and also
Mrs. Billie Harvey of Abilene.
Mrs. Normanda Sander of
Abilene spent Sunday night here
with her aunt, Mrs. Adele
Dudensing.
Old Glory teachers attended
the District Meeting of the State
Teachers Association held in
Sweetwater last Monday.
