Many of the wheat fields look npe, but I am yet to see a combine run-
ning and I am sure there are green heads and green spots even in the fields
that look ripe As I have said before, it takes another week of maturing af-
ter the wheat appears to be ripe when one casually looks at a field Once
some of the fields become dry enough to harvest it seems like the other
fields mature quite rapidly, too Wheat harvest should be in high gear by
next weekend and finished by early July
Wheat farmers are excited about the prospects for a bumper crop Dry
weather at the end of the growing season has taken the edge off the yields,
but we still anticipate one of the best harvests of our farming career, ex-

Why Should We United9 ( a letter to the Editor)
A united effort in any enterprise is important because of the combined
power of the "Unity" and usually will result m victory In reference to
united work by Christians, Jesus said m John 17.21 ."that all of them may
be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you", and as Paul says
to the Romans, "May the God who gives endurance and encouragement
give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus "
In the case of the upcoming revival crusade, a lot is at stake in this
area. For example, a dynamic youth-oriented program can give many the
opportunity to respond to God because of the special appeal Thousands
of young people have come forward in other states due to the "Go Tell
Crusade" We should not let the young people of Tulia and the area fall.
We must step forward and give them every chance We don't want to look
back and say, "We should have done more"
I was raised in Tuha, and recently my wife and I moved back here, and
since then I have seen at least two teen suicides, and another killed in an
escape from the law 1 think its time for us to take some new ideas and
methods to help our youth, and the 20 to 40 age people in this area.
I have worked with almost every church group in this town, and I feel
that the evangelical churches have a common unity in our belief m the
Holy Trinity, and salvation through Jesus Christ (obedience and committ-

our basis will get better (or both) and our wheat will begin to be shipped
out We have to have world wide economic stability to have stability on
our farms here in Swisher C ounty because we are truly part of a world
economy now
Most of the row crop is up and looking good We would really like an
inch of ram to root the crop down and to soften the surface of the soil
can irrigate when the crop gets a little bigger The hot, dry winds have
‘ rows will clod out badly, right now
, so maybe we will get our wish.
The countrv side is really green with non-cropped acres providmg lots
of cover for wildlife 1 see pheasant every day and I regularly see quail
and deer, but I am > et to see any of their young I suspect there is so much
cover that they are hiding quite well We ordinarily begin to see young
pheasants just prior to wheat harvest
With much of the ( RP being grazed or plowed, there will be less cover
for the wildlife this time, if it turns dry Maybe with the gradual release of
the CRP acres, the wildlife will have a chance to migrate to heavier cover.
