Wow, I can’t believe we are half way through with the school year. It
has been a great year thus far and we are looking forward for this semes-
ter to be the same. Our students have been doing a great job of getting to
school. Our attendance rates have been extremely high (96.56% Elemen-
tary, 97 67% High School/Jumor High). Luckily, the flu season hasn’t
hurt us too badly.
Basketball season is two thirds the way through and both teams are in
position to play for a district championship Attendance at our games has
been great You can tell there is an excitement about the way both teams
have been playing We encourage everyone to come and support or stu-
dent athletes Also, we have senior citizen passes, contact Dr Howell for
information about these passes
It is stock show season and we will have a large number of students
showing their animals in Swisher and Randall counties. Our Happy Inter-
national Stock show was a success, it is great to see all of our youth work-
ing so hard. You all did a great job and good luck at the county shows
I would like to thank our Happy Booster Club for all that it does for our
students. For the ones of you that don’t know about our Booster Club, it
is a whole school booster club It supports the entire school when extra
funds are needed The Booster Club will have a silent auction on January
22nd during the Happy/Nazareth ballgames If you would like to donate

“This is a great honor to Taylor and to all other servicemen and women
who have been trained to be medics m the Armed Services,” Tim Burk
said. “I believe Taylor would have been very humbled and extremely
proud to have such an honor given him It certainly has had that effect to
his family.”
Specialist Taylor Burk was in Baghdad for barely two days when the
infamous “April Uprising” exploded into fire fights all over Iraq in the
’ ’’ ’ 1 ; same night that Casey Sheehan
was killed in another skirmish just half a mile away. Burk and his Charlie

Road Trip
Think back to the days of walking
out of school, standing in line, waiting Camp Bullis, San Antonio, Texas, America Supports You Texas and the
to climb up into the big yellow bus that Texas Panhandle War Memorial will host
was waiting to take you home I liked
to get the back seat, but if the big kids
were (’
would get beat up
The driver couldn’t really sec you
too good back there so we would make
faces at the cars behind us. Crazy stuff
Years later 1 got ajob driving a school
bus.
It was fun and the kids liked it when
1 hit the big bumps. These days they
call the buses the “Yellow Dog.” You
pass by them, wave at the driver and go
on, not thinking twice about where they
are headed. You just know they will get spring of 26o4."ln the'same battle, on the
there in good shape , ...... • - • • -
How about our athletes9 The Hornets Company squad of several Humvees were ambushed by insurgents firing
