After living in Colorado
Springs for a lew.weeks. I had
grown accustomed to Pikes
Peak as seen from our back-
yard \ fantastic view, but it
was there every day, so it had
become easy to take it lor grant-
ed Then one morning I was
driving west toward downtown
( olorado Springs on Platte Av-
enue. a major east-west traffic
artery ol the city I arly morn-
ing atmospheric conditions were
such that Zebulon Pike’s famous
mountain loomed right before
me It seemed that 1 could reach
out and touch its purple moun-
tain majesty I was awed by its
grandeur overwhelmed by its
beauty C (dorado Springs docs
not have a particularly impres-
sive skyline It doesn’t need
one It has the purple mountain
majesty ol Pikes Peak1 ft’s not
just a joke. Pikes Peak does help
compensate lor lower pay in
C olorado Springs' Man does not
live by bread alone
But one still needs a little
bread It helped when Patricia
got a job directing Kids, Inc , a
privately owned day care cen-
ter Actually it was a new cen-
ter which Patricia helped to get
started and staffed (idling a
sufficient number of children to
make it a profitable organization

kansas He was a World War

loved his country, his family,
and his church He was a loyal
and faithful follower of Jesus
Christ James was a graduate of
