PRINCIPAL CAUSES OF DEATH IN UNITED
STATES IN 1925.,
There were 1,219,019 deaths in 1925 within the
death registration area of continental United
States, representing a death rate of 11 8 per 1.000
population-the same as the rate of 1924. Fig-
ures are from the -United States Decartment of
Commerce.
This death registration area in 1925 comprised
forty States, the District of Columbia and twenty-
four cities in non-registration States. with a total
estimated population on July 1 of 103,108,000, or
89 4 per cent of the estimated population of the
United States.
The entire State of Texas is not within the reg-
istration area of the United States, but the cities
of Dallas. Fort Worth. Houston, San Antonio, El
Paso, Galveston. Waco and Beaumont are included
in the registration area. (See other tables for sta-
tistics on health in Texas.)
The principal decreases in death rates in 1925
were from measles, froth 9 to 2 per 100,000 popu-
lation: pneumonia, all forms. from 98 to 94. and
tuberculosis, all forms, from 90 to 87.
Increases in rates in 1925 were for influenza.
from 20 to 30 per 100,000 population; diseases of
the heart, from 178 to 180 nephritis. from 90 to
96, and diarrhea and enteritis, under 2 years, from
